That was two years ago, and clearly she gave up on the idea of being an "influencer" and tried to build a career for herself - one that Eskom has taken away.

As I said, ignore the individual and focus on the actual issue - load shedding is causing irreparable damage.

I'm sure we've all tried doing a few things that failed. Does that mean everything is going to fail?

She tried a completely different path two years ago which failed, she has since found her feet (although she has now had them yanked out from under her).

Never mind load shedding twice in a year, when we moved to our current house the cell towers would stay on for the duration of load shedding. Speeds would drop, signal would often change from 4G to 3G, but using today as an example I was on "no service" between 08:01 and 11:09 - two years ago I could actually use my phone (including data connection) for the entire duration of load shedding.
Yip, even the "mighty " vodacom fell over yesterday one hour into loadshedding.

Seems like she is disorganized. When I was in SA, I also did online teaching and the first thing I did was to get Fibre since my livelihood depended on it. Vox offers those small UPS for like R79 a month and they can power the ONT and router for about 4 hours give or take. I also invested in those ultrabooks that lasted around 6-8 hours. (not cheap but it proved to be a good investment). If you are doing business and it relies on the internet, then backup options are needed for power and even the internet as well. I remember i used to have different sim cards with a few gbs of data for backup just in case.

I already mentioned that she could have just bought house in areas where fibre already exists. I mean, duh, how difficult is it to buy a house really. Or rent.

This is it in a nutshell
Also did not ask someone for advice, or asked someone without a clue

A friend with an almost identical job realised years ago that she had to take steps to ensure electricity and purchased the necessary kit

One of my G-Fs kids is doing this while studying at varsity, is covers the fees and her living expenses. First thing she did was go out and get a back up battery for her laptop and another router so she always has network to be able to teach regards of the power situation. She says it is a hassle but but she copes.

I'm thinking this one was too busy spending the money while it was coming in, to worry about tomorrow.

Zero sympathy here

This entire thread in a nutshell:

"I know someone who managed this situation so why doesn't this person? She's just lazy/greedy/etc."

I also know someone who recovered from cancer, so why don't people stop dying from cancer? These people dying from cancer are just lazy/greedy/etc.

If you have an online business, you need to plan better. Generator. Petrol. Fibre. If you do not have that in your town and cannot afford it, find a job. You are not really cut out to run a business.

But, bottom line, thank the ANC and thank Eskom.
You are not wrong but clearly you have never had to start something from nothing and have no clue what the persons financial situation is or what its like to struggle to make a living.

"Lungi's situation aligned with my personal experiences in so many ways. We can only build a better SA by voting the ANC out. That's how we can make this country better. We all need to move forward and vote the ANC out," said Hugo.
