diesel bill runs to R2-billion a month

They said 1 billion last I saw... now they got 10's of billions from government and suddenly its now 2 billion a month? How does that work? One billion for diesel a month, one billion for bonuses a month?

Edit: I see what they doing, got 23 billion for diesel, mean close to 2 years worth, so they can't use this as the excuse for tariff increase next year. Double the cost now makes it only a years worth, so they can now play the diesel card again

That is a much more complex question. I think Eskom should be doing that but I think the company is so dysfunctional around cost control that there really is no choice but for a higher tariff.
Not my monkeys, not my problem.

Yeah it costs more, but we have alternatives.

Thank you ANC and your corruption. Can't keep stealing and pushing educated people out of the country.

The problem with raising the tariff to cover the extra diesel now is that when there is enough base capacity again (hopefully in the next 10 years...) they will not reduce the tariff again. So we will pay for the extra diesel used now forever, much like food prices never drop with the fuel prices and only ever go up.

what i dont understand about this whole debate, is WTF does the losses due to loadshedding have to do with the money needed for generators?

eg:

business running on electricity :

before pricing :
Income : 5mil
expense: 4 mil (lets say in a perfect world this loss is all due to electricity
profit : 1mil

during load shedding:
Income : 0mil (loss to economy is 5mil....)
expense: 0 mil (lets say in a perfect world this loss is all due to electricity
profit : 0mil

new pricing:
Income : 5mil
expense: 4.5 mil (lets say in a perfect world this loss is all due to electricity
profit : 0.5 mil

dont see how they can force our hand to hand over money based on the loss? Blackmail anyone?

What I would like to know is how much diesel they use and at what price do they procure it. They always hide behind confidential agreements. The price of fuel is common knowledge, so why hide the figures?

Was a breakdown of how that R23bn was to be allocated to ever released for public knowledge? Surely the bulk of it HAS to go to maintenance?! If it's all for diesel, then we're going to be in the same boat this time next year. I'd like to think there are some T's & C's attached to this bailout, namely in the form of stipulated maintenance targets?

FBE is the amount of electricity, which is deemed sufficient to provide basic electricity services to a poor household. This amount of energy will be sufficient to provide basic lighting, basic media access, basic water heating using a kettle and basic ironing in terms of grid electricity and basic lighting and basic media access for non-grid systems.

Illegal electricity connections cost the eThekwini Municipality R230m a year, according to figures supplied by the city.

Want to solve the problem .......... well get EVERYONE to pay, and cut the illegal connections.
