Hi guys,

Can anyone explain how the int/local caps work. I was reading about openbrowse and was wondering how this works.
I read somewhere, some guy or a few guys actually are using the 2gb cap plus the 30 local and it is ample. They were saying something that their downloads come off the local account and they route their browsing to come off the 2gb cap.

Can someone explain how it works.

Thanks

Its the same account so once u download 2gigs of anything local or intl u are capped but then u can make use of openbrowse which lets u browse intl at 128k or wat ever speed it is..

that sucks, so how do you get nzb files if you cant browse? at the mo im getting them off diff sites (very easy). trying to get them thru grabit is a little confusing.

Thats the problem. Get urself a prepaid webafrica acc and just switch between accounts or get route sentry to run both accounts at the same time.

thanks dude, you confirmed what i thought was gonna happen :(
oh well, with time SA should get uncapped dsl, until then we make do.
with route sentry can you direct int 'traffic' to go through one account and local to go through the other?

You will be totally blocked from international sites, what everyone does is they buy 2 accounts, one IS account and the other a prepaid saix 1 gig account for surfing from Webafirca, download a program called route sentry from http://antibody.za.net, read the instructions carefully and set it up. Basically what it does is uses ur local bandwith from ur IS account and ur international bandwith from the pre-paid saix account. Hope this helps

Yes. I have never used route sentry myself as i just swicth to my saix account manually, do what i want, gather some nzb's and then switch back to IS when im done with international stuff. Some ppl are too lazy to keep switching but i dont mind, its also a nice way of getting a new ip addy and with the current news servers a new ip seems to make a slight improvment.

cool, how long until someone brings out an app to seperate the local and int on the same account? (that would make sense right?) :)

Basically you have to hope that oneday IS will decide to implement such a system somehow on Telkom ADSL as a major push factor for them as a ADSL network provider. Saix charges for every thing the same so I reckon if they did that they'd gain a few new customers.

Till then client/customer side routing of traffic thru different PPPoE accounts is the only solution.

What's the point of having an int cap if youre not going to enfore it? I've got a 2gb WA account (28 local), but ive dwnlded 4gb int already (plus a bit more local), thing is, i cant access int sites anymore (obviosuly) but how did i manage to go 2gb over my limit?

what does this mean? im just lucky? going to be capped even harder next month? pls explain?

Because you are only capped when your session ends, so say they reset you every 24 hours, and you have any cap left, you can download as much as you want within those 24 hours untill they reset your connection.

Exactly correct. IS pays for the costs of not being able to cap you at the right time, unlike SAIX where the ISP would have to cover the costs :D
