Local councils seek own telephone networks

MUNICIPALITIES have applied for permission to set up and run their own land-line telephone networks in areas that do not have access to Telkom lines.

The Local Government Information Communication and Technology Forum, part of the South African Local Government Association, made the recommendation in their submission on the draft Convergence Bill....

Ya. And as Gov have 40% stake in - wait for it - TELKOM, it will be outsourced to - wait for it - TELKOM :eek:

This shouldn't just be for underserviced areas - you should be able to have this in any municipality as a basic service and if you need more you should be able to move on to Telkom etc - that way the municipalities would be competeting and e won't see such bad service
