So as soon as I purchased my 50" Plasma I wanted to get an HD PVR. The decoder is pretty pricey and we still have to add another +/- R1500 for installation to that, but I was adamant on getting it. The guy at the store told me to hang on as Multichoice and Altech are coming up with a cheaper HD PVR decoder. So I waited from April but got fed up and Makro had their brithday special with the decoder going for R2999, so I was ready to go down there and purchase one, but just to make sure I phoned up the guy that did my TV ariel/ Satellite setup to see what I needed, he also told me to hang one, the current Pace decoder which is fully imported has alot of bugs, and is really slow and multichoice are due to release a locally manufactured one soon and a much lower cost. I called mutichoice up and those guys know nothing about it, well then again the operators dont know anything if they cant read up the solution from their monitor, but since Im in the construction industry I know the guy from Ellies, he said there is one but his not sure when they will launch it. I just want to know if any of you guys heard anything about it?

UEC decoder (Altech) launch is imminent. Decoder will be same specs as the Pace and it will be at the same price. There will be another one in April next year, which will be a slimmed down version at a lower cost. They will all run the same software, which was the cause of most of the bugs. They are running pretty smooth now.

The PACE decoder has very very few bugs... ALL the bugs that I know of are in the Multichoice software itself.

The UEC decoder will have the same bugs, since it will run the exact same software.

Why have a locally produced PVR at the same price?

Oh hang on - higher profit margin......

Surely it should be cheaper.

Why bother if you going to use the same software / hardware design as PACE ??

Anyways - Pace desgin is already old tech.

Why for the love of all things furry can't we get a non-pvr HD decoder? Why are we forced to fork out an additional R1500 to record something that is repeated 15 times a week?
