Lockdown is losing the support of South Africans

Lots of people don't care about lockdown anymore. While driving to town I've seen people chatting with neighbours outside on the pavement, cars with more than 3 occupants, people shopping in groups. There is a Pakistani shop here that sells all of the goods he has in his store.
What lockdown?

Again - I am surprised there hasnt been any - Lord knows South Africans protest riot for anything and everything, the Toyi Toyi is our national dance, and We Demand is our national slogan .... must be the lack of booze :)

Lockdown starts, 27 March: 1170 confirmed cases, 1 death.
Lockdown extended, 9 April: 1934 confirmed cases, 18 deaths.
As of yesterday, 27 April: 4793 confirmed cases, 90 deaths.

Does that sound like it’s working to anyone? Obviously, there is no way of knowing what the numbers would have been without the lockdown, but a 400% increase in deaths just since the extension, after we’d already been in lock down for two weeks doesn‘t seem like very convincing evidence.

LMFAO! Because disease death rate is impacted by lockdown not the patients condition hey.

This weekend was rough, no golf, nothing to do. You get so bored that you don't want to do anything.

Agreed, I actually found myself having to go stand outside (even though technically forbidden and fineable in a complex) as my mood was awful.

Imagine how the poor must feel. No consoles to play games, no computers to browse the internet and consume content. Cheap android phones that barely work with Whatsapp.

Things could be worse. Exercise and you'll be alright.

I am lucky enough to be able to work during the week and am so busy on weekends with work around the house I haven't been bored during lock down yet. I am frustrated though but not as much as our puppy is.

I would be similar.. and the frustration stems from not being able to get the things I want to do the work around the house that I need/want to do largely. I have the time to do it now but I can't get the stuff

The issue is not the rate, but the fact that the average period between onset and death is somewhere around 20 days.

If you take the following form (suitably completed of course) to a hardware store, they will sell you anything

In the past 2 days, I got putty, glass, 20mm conduit, a 2-lever light switch, a bag of cretestone

Yeah I know I could probably get away with that from a hardware store... I have many projects that require many things from many different places...

In my area (CT southern suburbs) there are 6 large hardware stores open, one of which stocks a big range of electrical parts and cable, 2 motor spares. The one hardware store (Build-It) has lots of paint

Builder Warehouse Constantiaberg are fussy. They want the form and check your ID. It depends on the manager
Yeah, I do think it's the large franchise stores that have to be fussy - all it takes is one simple minded mother-grundy type to cause the entire nationwide name to be dragged through the mud. The smaller non-chain store types are a lot more flexible (hardware and other stores)

That's because many of those who Toyi Toyi are moving around freely.

EDIT. So would I if I lived in an informal settlement. Can't expect anyone to spend the month inside a shack.

The government should collect up all the forms you need to move them around and put them in a little book. Then issue that little book to people such that they can show the government that they are allowed to be in a certain area and do certain activities.

The best part is that the current government isn't even competent enough to think about such things to get to their dream of a totalitarian dictatorship. They will just leave it to the petty tyrants in local police stations.

I already had some things I needed like polyfilla and interior paint, the waterproofing stuff I bought the day before lock down, so I did some planning ahead. I wish I had bought some service items for my MkI VW Golf though, as I could have given it a service during lock down.
