Login problems to MTN data

All of sudden I can't login on the MTN data network. Been doing this for nearly two years (year with the same notebook/Nokia 9500 setup). Nothing changed.

Monday the PC connected to my Iburst:mad:  modem had a hard disk crash

No problem in the interim I thought - onto my backup via MTN and phone (last used within a week).

Fired it up, went through the login and authentication ok. Then the process tried to register the computer on the network (as it has for the last two years). Get an error 734: "The PPP link control protocol was terminated".

Any ideas. Tried for two days to call MTN corporate data help. Get a pre-recorded message that "they are aware of the email problem and are working on it" - since Tuesday. Hang on till I get cold - no luck.

Help???

Hi
As you mentioned, it works when you using the browser on the handset itself. Just fails via the PC when using the phone as a modem, this indicates it is clearly not a network issue. If there were problems with GPRS, it would fail on the handset also. Its def an issue with the PC software. I will check and see if I can find some info so you can troubleshoot.

Nothing changed on the PC software side, so why the problem after all this time?

Is there not a difference between how the handset collects mail and the PC logs onto the network.

When connecting via the PC, the handset "dials up" correctly, the username/password handshake proceeds fine. The error occurs during the subsequent stage of the login process (registering the computer on the network).

So yes, the GPRS part seems to work fine as does the authentication - its the "registering on the network" last stage that fails.

MTN told me that they were having problems with their data connections (3G/GPRS), been ongoing since last week. Seems it is still not resolved. Works sometimes on my Nokia N73, and sometimes it doesn't. Nashua Mobile said that it affects some numbers but not all....

Anyone working for MTN on these forums confirms whats going on, and when it will be resolved?

Phone connects but data card doesn't

Glad to see I'm not suffering alone.. But while my data card hasn't been working for about two weeks (also network authentication error), my Nokia E70 connects every time. Strangely, the average throughput is nearly as fast as my HSDPA data card was..
I don't give a d**n about 3.6MB/s networks, I just want the one I've got to work!! Tired of seeing 3-5% network utilisation on my connection

Still getting the same error when registering the computer on the network.
Go through username and password authentication.
Then get message "Registering computer on the network" and after a delay get the error message.

What is going on here - same setup been working fine for a year!!!

I had the same error for about the last 2 days.

What i do is switch to CSD by using the dial-up number 0831233278
This is a normal dialup number. Once the connection goes thru i disconnect and connect again via PSD. This worked for me. If not, just keep redialing it works eventually. There is def. a problem some where. I just keep trying and it works after a couple of tries.

I am still having this problem and only getting useless assistance from MTN - when I eventually manage to get through. Tried to escalate the help assistance to no avail.

Anyone got any ideas as to why this is happening (error 734: PPP link control protocol terminated".

Had a similar problem. If you have the MTN VPN set up try creating a profilie in the fastlink software and use that. Mine gave me problems over the weekend and monday till one of the guys from 1555 helped me set this up so now its working.
