Hi All,

Like many of the rest of you I've experienced the slow speed on iBurst (~ 1-4 KB/Sec). This is while being UN-CAPPED.

Also I'm on the Kyalami BS and don't believe I've been having any radio related problems (e.g. pings & http to www.iburst.co.za always good), so I'm not sure if this applies to the PTA/Northcliff problems which seem more radio or capacity related.

So I've been experimenting a bit, and the more I test the more this problem seems to be with the Auth system interacting with the BW Mgmt system. If I keep logging out & in I will get some slow sessions (1-4 KB/Sec) & some fast sessions (~ 105 KB/Sec for me).

It has nothing to do with the IP I get (get slow & fast on same IP range) or how many times I log in & out (sometimes 1 login/out to get from slow to fast, sometimes takes up to 5). Also there does not seem to be any correlation to how long you wait between logout & in (tried 1 sec to 30min).

My guess is that every IP assigned by Auth sys relates to a BW rule on BW Mgr. As you login an IP is assigned & its associated rule in the BW Mgr is updated.

But what happens when the two systems loose sync. Lets say I login in and get assigned an IP which was being used by another user shortly before me, and that user didnt logout ... they just switched off their UTD or ejected UTC?

Maybe the BW Mgr now doesnt get updated and I get the IP with the other user's CAPPED BW rule? Or possibly (my suspicion) that the BW Mgr has all users capped unless the Auth sys injects an un-capped rule for the IP it just dished out, and the rule update failed. The session would then seem capped.

Anyway this is my theory. The question I have for others with the slow bandwidth problems is, have you persevered to keep login in & out to try and get a fast session? Are your experiences similar, or is this something local to my BS or just my setup?

Well....my experience is this. When I get slow speed +/- 1kb/s disconnecting and reconnecting directly afterwards will not fix it...I have tried it several times. What I have to do is switch UTD of for 1hour then reconnect, get new ip and then check speed. Most of the time this will fix it. Ofcourse if I leave my UTD off over night in the morning it is very possible to get slow speed again. So then I have to switch UTD of for a hour again and reconnect.

It would seem that change will only happen with a new ip for me. This does not stick to certain ip's ranges though. I have had good and bad speed on all ip ranges.

[UPDATE] It seems that since this morning 12-07 if I reconnect instantly I get a new ip. Have not tried it again as my speed is ok at the moment and don't want to risk loosing it :(

I wish it was that simple to get some speed...
Speeds higher than 6.9 kbps (0.8 kBps) are almost impossible, got 300+ kbps on Friday and 45 kbps on Saturday. Getting a new IP is almost impossible, requires disconnection for long periods and a bit of luck.
I'm giving up on this crap, can't believe this is possible based on my relatively good experience until end of June.
This month was also the first month I called the helpdesk, so I now appreciate that pain as well.

I'm sitting in exactly the same boat.

P0tenc when you say connect & disconnect you mean login logout using either the Broadband adapter in Win or the PPPoE client on your router ... right.

Also do you logout before you power off you UTD, or just power off while logged in ?

I have had exactly the same experience, for about 4 times in the last two weeks. I connect from 4ways, close to the 4 ways mall - I'm not quite sure what tower it is and how far it is away but I get 100% signal always.

It seems that WBS is in continual "churn" with the implementation of their BW manager, they try to fix one thing and then they break something else. It might be a good idea if they get someone with some competence to fix the thing once and for all.

I use dialup adapter in windows. My router only supports a broadband connection on the phone line port :( I have disconnected in windows....and have just plugged out the power from the UTD aswell.....no notable difference, I still had to wait an hour. Since this morning though it seems I get a new ip right away. Weird.

I'm confused ...

Do you mean you have an ADSL router .... and therefore you use a direct USB or Ether connection from your PC to your UTD?
