Significantly increased gray matter volume was found in the brains of taxi drivers compared with those of controls in only two brain regions, namely the right and the left hippocampi. No differences were observed elsewhere in the brain.

This is a good example of the plasticity of the human brain. When you learn a new skill, you change the structure of your brain.

And SA taxi drivers?

I am speculating as the study was only done on London taxi drivers, but SA taxi drivers follow fixed routes so the phenomenon may not apply to them. In the study they found that London bus drivers do not have enlarged hippocampi. They think this is because bus drivers follow a fixed route while taxi drivers must be able to drive anywhere using any route.
