vegaskid, which side of concourse are you??

I'm also in LoneHill, just off concourse, on Dennis road, but concourse is rather long, so I'm not too sure where you are.

I am currently conected from home, BUT, no signal withoutthe use of a little dish mounted on my roof, signal, between 10-17%, quite decent, but disconnects on average 2/3 times a day.
see http://dorris.no-ip.com/dish , you can get a fair indication of where I am, drop me a mail from the forum if you need, you welcome to come check it out, if you in the same elavation and region, the same should work for you.
In regards to towers, I wouldn't hold my breath too long for the lonehill tower, there was once an indication of a linehill tower, and I've heard murmerings that its still planned for sometime, but it doesn't seem to be a priority. Your choices at the moment, drop sentech / suspend your account until fixed / try tweak your connection for all its worth, and connect to tower 66
Apparently Golf Park has gone down, leaving us only with the tower on wil.nicol/witkoppen

Got my modem etc direct from sentech, unbundled package, in regards to equipment,
1 * 60cm Dish from ellies electronics (retail R190 I think)
1 * 2.5GHz Yagi from poynting 9db alone, 21db when mounted on dish (R200)
Webb industries made up the pigtail, and I also purchased 10m LMR 400 from them, +/- R40 per metre.
Don't forget earthing cable, R2,50 p/m from Mica Rivonia

You can get all these things bundled together, from poynting Or andrews antennas, or Miro, I just made it up, for a fraction of the cost, coz I already had the dish lying around.
Search the forum for andrews, theres many links to aerials that have come through this forum over the past few months, for more info, try
http://www.justf*ckinggoogleit.com
(Replace * with a u)
I recommend everyone checks this link, its a good laugh .

Before going ahead, I called PowerBand, they gve great service, and are also resellers, they came out and did a signal test with an aerial similiar to mine, but I think they use a 45cm dish.
cost R150 if I recall.

For my honest opinion, wait a few weeks, and see if things improve, before signing into contracts, the next year will bring many new options, you don't want to be stuck in a contract with a connection that sucks, if better options exist!

dorris i live close to lonehill blvd and concourse opposite mykonos (greek diplomatic residence) actually.

Im off this afternoon to try buy a bi-directional antenae.

i hope i get rescued. i really need the mywireless for working at home.

where is do get signal its not terrible. i was in rosebank and was getting 156kbs the other day. in a resturant (laptop).

problem is my laptop runs out of baterry after 2.5 hrs hard work.

Sentech should re connect the golf park tower !!.

in my appartment 6 of my friends would get the package if we could just get signal.

look , i dont believe in totally rashing sentech. i think it will get better. there are by law issues for putting up base stations etc.

lets get Lonehill working!!!

DON't DO IT

Even with my HIGHLY directional Dish (+/- 9 degree beam), if its not positioned right, I often drop my signal and pick up midrand tower (which is too far away to connect to, but the modem still locks onto it).
If you pick up a bi-directional, the problems,
1. It is not as powerful, if you need a high boost, its not sufficient
2. You can't select your tower (so if midrand is slightly more powerful, which happens often, you're screwed).

Advantages,
If it works right, and you see the right tower, it involves no tweaking, and obviously is a more stable connection.

judging by your position relative to mine, YOU NEED AS MUCH POWER AS YOU CAN GET!
You are in the middle of the 0-120 degree zone (node 1) on the tower, it just so happens tower 66 fourways has no node 1 (unless they recently added it, when they removed GolfPark, I haven't gone searching for it yet).

Get a tester to check your signal before forking out the cash, it might save you a wasted aerial!

ahhh man . got the patch antennae. feel like a fool. it didnt do jack.

im in a rush to get my wireless working at home. have to rive around and find a spot as well as power to get signal and work. i would really rather be doing this at home.

so patch antennae will not help me. i paid R300 for it. now i have to invest in a big mast type gippo . i dont have R1200 to spend on this .

SENTECH JUST Switch Golf Park and Lonehill on DAMMIT !!!!!

i am not a whiner, where i get signal im satisfied with my wireless . i jUST need it at home.

Well, since you purchased the patch antenna, you one step closer to your mast, at least you got a pigtail, now all you have to do is purchase a dish , yagi, and cabling, but PLEASE, GET A TESTER TO COME OUT BEFORE YOU WASTE ANYMORE MONEY on a useless service. go to powerband.co.za, I spoke to Donald over there, he was willing to come that very same day for a test, see what happens, I would offer to test, but its insanity to remove my mounted dish.

Don't assume because I got signal you can, I'm scraping signal in its lowest form, it fluctuates between 0% and 17%, and you are further away from the tower.

If all is clear with the tester, follow my links in the earlier post, for your cheapest bet at installation, The antenna's the cheap part, cabling will be your biggest expense.

thanks dorris. well im going to have to wait.

got some prices of like R1000 . so i guess its the wait till end of the month . poynting.co.za has the mast antennae.

i am going to support sentech . by end of this year im sure they will be MUCH bETTER.

i am not and never will be a whinner. i think people here complain too much.

when i go to the supermarket and buy bake beans, i dont get home and get all surprised that its bake beans inside.

bakebeans is bake beans.

but hey if sentech could get lonehill together thta will be super.

The label on Sentech Baked Beans (tm) says 256 grams, but there are only 50 grams in the tin [;)]

vegaskid, I refuse to pay to be a beta tester. And that's what we've all been doing since May this year.
Let sentech sort out their **** and I'll revisit the option. But for now I'm cancelling.

I suggest you return the modem and cancel your contract. You have a valid reason for cancellation according to the contract since there's no service coverage.

256k ... BAH..more like 25.6k
