Yup. A friend runs a transport section and gets a call from a local taxi association wanting to fine (in cash of course) one of his trucks because the guy saw a friend of his who worked where the truck was going to collect goods and gave him a lift. The taxi guys were armed and effectively put up a road block to stop the truck. SAPS were nowhere to be seen and wouldn't move. ANC sponsored anarchy. Not just busses. If you have your own company e.g. construction and you have a vehicle to transport your own staff then you have to pay extortion money to the taxi bosses. If you don't make arrangements with them they confiscate your vehicle. The commuters are the assets of the taxi bosses.
Because it is a cash business they also don't pay tax as they never declare the income

Cape Town - Police have arrested three men with illegal guns and ammunition near the Intercape bus depot at Airport Industria.
This comes after recent calls to protect the long-distance bus industry after it came under attacks from unknown gunmen that led to the death of one bus driver and the attempted killing of others.
The arrest comes less than three days after the arrest of 28-year-old Unathi Sitsili, who was arrested on Saturday for alleged attacks on several Intercape buses between March and April this year.
Sitsili is accused of fatally shooting 35-year-old Intercape bus driver Bangikhaya Machana.
Following his arrest, Sitsili appeared in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder and attempted murder. His case was postponed to August 22.
Lol...right up there with the mega smart cities....I actually think this is a crude ploy by the goverment to try and get the taxi industry to fight the bus industry so they can have the monopoly with their new upcoming (very soon) city to city bullet trains.
Cape Town - A total of 69 violent attacks on long-distance buses took place in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape in the current financial year, national police top brass told MPs.
To date, no firearms have been found, though 80 suspects have been traced.
There are two cases before Eastern Cape courts and four cases of intimidation being probed by police in the Western Cape, where there have been two arrests – one for murder and one for attempted murder.
This emerged during deputy commissioner Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili’s presentation of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure’s stability report before the tourism portfolio committee.
She said bus-related incidents mainly include malicious injury to property, intimidation, assault, attempted murder and murder.
Not our fúckking idiots. When you have to force government to do something you think they would already be doing...In the interests of safety and the economy and other daft things..

Intercape hails court ruling compelling ministers to protect long-distance buses
The bus company approached the court seeking intervention to compel the Eastern Cape Transport MEC and the transport minister to implement urgent measures to keep its drivers and passengers safe.ewn.co.za
somebody needs to do some digging and prove complicityNot our fúckking idiots.
Taxi bosses. Not even our flaccid police force are willing to take them on.somebody needs to do some digging and prove complicity
either the cops themselves or ministers themselves let the anarchy continue.
or Intercape invests in Security guards to travel along and make sure no gangsters try sh*t,
push up the ticket prices, but its an unfortunate reality.
like paying more for a Business with a Generator/Solar, you have no choice.
band aid solution, but nessasary, to prevent Intercape from ending up like Greyhound.
so what is the solution? liquidate and try operating from Harare?Taxi bosses. Not even our flaccid police force are willing to take them on.
