So i'm in the market for a double cab / Towing vehicle (not looking at new - no cash for that)

Two options i have so far:

1. Isuzu KB 250 D-TEQ LE 4X4 D/C 2008 @R125000
2. Mazda BT-50 club cab Drifter3.0 CRDI SLX 2012 @R169995

I'm more partial to the Isuzu.....

Your thoughts and any other options i should look at?

I would say the Isuzu by nature is the bakkie specialist but between those two the Mazda 3L TD may be the better buy; the engine is much more stronger & torquey than the 2.5L TD in the Isuzu.

If you're looking at a towing vehicle, the Mazda may be a better buy tbh....

BUT the 4x4 on the Isuzu would also be massively useful.

That Mazda seems really cheap. It is the old, non-T6, version though, as the modern ones have a 3.2l engine. What is the mileage like on each?

^ both look fairly neat but the mileage on the Isuzu relative to the Mazda...eish...

What's the drive like for both; Mazda is newer; better engine & much lower mileage. Cons so far is higher purchase price & the Club Cab configuration...I don't know if seats at the back is essential for you.

The Mazda doesn't have a canopy. Do you need one Hunter?

You sure that is a 2008 KB? That is a 1st gen KB72 launched in 2010/2011, also noticed it with the interior. Nothing wrong the Ford, ahem Mazda.

Thaat BT50 is a Mazda, the Ranger was badge engineered. With the new T6 generation, Ford built the Ranger, and Mazda badges it as the new BT 50.

The Isuzu drives like a dream, and i'm pretty sure it's not a 2008, more like a 2010. The engine has been totally reconditioned 20000km ago (saw the paperwork).

The Mazda also drives well, but it doesn't have the "solid feel" of the Isuzu, plus the Isuzu is a full double cab and has the canopy.

So i'm partial to the Isuzu right now but will go and see a 2012 Ranger 3.2 6 Speed during the week, and then make a decision. I've heard rumors that the 6 speed Rangers suffer from gearbox issues, is this true?

Be aware that the 3.2 DRINKS fuel.... its not a frugal beast at all.
Also as long as that Isuzu has been decently cared for, the 235k mileage won't even begin to be a problem.
