I was hoping someone could assist me with my current network issues.

As the title states, I am looking to upgrade from my current Huawei D105 Wireless 3G Router to a 802.11ac router that will work with my 3G modem. Unfortunately I cant get ADSL in my building. The modem I have is a Huawei e352. The main reason for the upgrade is to have a faster/more stable local network for plex media streaming throughout the house. 2 Tv's with chromecasts and then cellphones/tablets.

I found this TP-Link router at Wootware - http://www.wootware.co.za/tp-link-archer-d2-ac750-wireless-dual-band-gigabit-adsl2-modem-router.html

There is also this Asus router http://www.wootware.co.za/asus-rt-ac52u-dualband-wireless-ac750-router.html

Would this do the job? And would it be compatible with my 3G modem?

I also don't mind getting a new 3G modem if the need requires.

Any better suggestions would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi nlock,

From our range, the DrayTek Vigor2860ac is our best recommendation.

Features of the Vigor2860ac include:
  • VDSL and ADSL support for your future use
  • Tri-WAN: DSL, Ethernet WAN and 2 USB ports for 3G/LTE modems
  • 6 gigabit LAN ports
  • Concurrent dual-band 802.11ac WiFi with support for 4 SSIDs
  • 32 VPN tunnels
  • Central WiFi access point management for use with DrayTek WiFi APs.

The Huawei E3131 3G dongle, and Huawei E8372 LTE wingle are both compatible with the Vigor2860ac.

Give a shout for further info, or to connect with a reseller in your area.

You are doing lot of streaming. It is a time to retire your 3G modem, take it with you on the road and get right LTE stationary router. Huawei B593 will sell on specials anytime soon as new models are coming, but it has strong antenna and proven record to give stable connection. Only problem is inability to put in bridge mode or disable firewall and has limited menu options, but it allows to put your new 802.11ac router in DMZ to let it do all routing job.
In such scenario you have very flexible setup. Buy any 802.11ac router you like, no pairing, no compatibility issues.
