Am in a serious relationship with a girl who also wants to be child free, and regardless of how my relationship turns out with her, I am looking to avoid being involved in the spawning any children.

Any recommendations for urologists in Cape Town?

How old are you?
What if you change your mind later?
Come back in a few years once you have had a kid or two...

Those are things you are going to need to be prepared to answer, urologists etc dont have to perform the procedure and most wont unless they arent on a power trip.

Yes I get that it is your choice and your body etc, but be prepared to be turned down on your first few attempts unless you have good answers to those questions.

Just reverse it?

"Childfree" is such a telling way of expressing this. I have children, I call myself a parent I don't tell people I am "child-incarcerated."

"Childfree" associates you with an online scene where immature people get together and kvetch about other people's kids. What they don't realise is that everyone kvetches about other people's kids, mostly other parents.

You should consider waiting until you are mature enough to not base big decisions on internet subcultures and fads.

36, soon going on 37.

This is not something I'm changing my mind on. Primary reasons: kids are expensive, we have enough kids on the planet (if I do decide I want a couple later, I'll adopt) I don't want to raise kids after seeing what a lot of people I know have to deal with, and yes, I want to be able to enjoy sex without worrying about accidentally getting my partner pregnant.

A friend of mine had it done a few years back and yes, he was a nervous wreck before the op but was great afterwards. Problem is he lives about 2 hours out from Cape Town and had it done at a Mediclinic in Worcester, or I would just go with his doctor.

See my comment above. It's just the easiest way to refer to it, since, as you so clearly pointed out, people know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "child free".

Dr. Stopforth

The best urologist IMHO.

Do it, if that is what you & your partner want.

It is minor surgery, the worst thing is that some random guy shaves your balls (awkward, but don't shave before, any small cut you might make is not fresh - the surgeon is unlikely to cut you but it will be in a sterile environment so he can sterilize it)

Don't bother with anesthesia; a local is enough. It is not at all pleasant but it is not hard. It feels a bit like someone is pulling on a tight string in your balls (and.. that is what it is)

Pain afterwards: not too bad, I could have gone to work immediately. It is not nice but it is really manageable, don't ride a horse or bicycle or motorcycle for 2-3 days. I took off 2 days but I was able to walk out of hospital and the 2nd day I used mostly to get "sympathy" from my wife.

Edit to add: the fugly jockstrap they give you is not going to get the "sympathy" you want unless your SO has a really weird medical fetish.

Go to Karl Bremmer. I had mine done there and didn't pay a cent

I still don't have a kid who looks like me
