IMO get a hospital plan. Network options offer cheaper rates but limit the hospitals that you can use.

Maybe look at something like Medihelp dimension prime 1.

What's your age and budget?
Just you?
Or family?

I am still pay as you go but I should also start looking at options, I am 49

My opinion, the term ‘Medical Aid’ is complete BS. They are NOT there to aid you in any way whatsoever.

‘Medical Scheme’ is more apt. They definitely scheme to take as much money from you as possible whilst paying for as little as possible.

I’d suggest a hospital plan plus gap cover. Plan and put a small bit away into an easy access savings account with highest interest rate you can find. Use that as day to day medical expenses. You just need to be strict with yourself not to access that savings account for fun things.
