So I'm fairly clueless about Anime, what should I watch that would be good for a noob to get into?

On hand I have:
  1. Archer
  2. Full Metal Panic!
  3. Happy Tree Friends
  4. Scryed
  5. Sword of the Stranger (movie)

Should I start with one of these? Else I can acquire other stuff if recommended.

Is dubbed or subtitled the way to go? Can you recommend one of each (dubbed or subtitled)?

^^^ Samurai Champloo. It's self-contained, one season long and not as heavy as some other anime. One of the few that I'll re-watch. The English version is pretty good.

Depends what genre you like. Slice of life, mecha, fantasy, sports etc? But until you find your niche I'd recommend:

Attack on Titan <--- Start with this, you'll be blown away
Death Note
Deadman Wonderland
Sword Art Online
Bleach
Akame ga Kill
Gintama
Black Lagoon
Kuroko no Basuke
Code Geass
Psycho Pass
One Piece

As you can see my tastes lean heavily towards the action side :whistling:

The only anime I honestly preferred dubbed is Black Lagoon, otherwise Japanese version fo' life. You also don't have to wait for the dub to come out.

Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex has a pretty good dub, it's also a good starter anime.

Piracy is bad and if anime via linux distro tracking sites is what you want I can't help you. What I can suggest is:

http://www.crunchyroll.com/

You can watch SD anime for free with ads or in HD with no ads for a reasonable fee. Always support the creators of the content you enjoy by paying it.

Thank you.

You forgot to mention WebAfrica being the best ISP to stream these shows from.

Go to www.myanimelist.net and register as a user, then search for the anime you want and there is a section on the page that lists which sub group is subbing the anime, pick one.

Unless they changed their translators very recently, which i highly doubt, I can't recommend crunchyroll as a paid service. The translation and translation QC for a lot of the shows that are not simple shounen orientated is just awful in my opinion and has been localized too much. Supporting the creators is one thing, but to ask for money and give crap translation is a big nope.
