I was having an interesting discussion on twitter last night on what anime to chose when you want to get a friend into the whole scene.

I ruled out Death Note, for one reason, every time someone starts off with Death Note they assume that all anime's will be heart clenching from start to end. Steins; Gate is one of my new favourites, but it really takes time to kick off into the meat of things. Most people ended up siding with Samurai Champloo, Evangelion & Attack of Titan.

So I'd like to know, what are your go to animes when you want to introduce a friend to the scene?
One of the criteria's I put when asking people this question is that it has to be a short run anime. Anything above 40 episodes is really pushing it.

Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Samurai Champloo
Macross Plus
Gungrave
Ghost in the Shell and the series.

Do not show them Akira though. I got Stein's cue'd up and ready to go.

The answer is Cowboy Bebop all the time.

Nah....

BTW did you see that DOA5LR got FPB's 18 rating, according to its Raru listing?

I still think Tecmo was chicken not going for the Japanese/Asian cover. You can contrast both on Play-Asia.com

This is the original Japanese cover, which is also the cover in Asia:

Dumbass Westernised cover:

Of course Marie Rose is included in all versions and she was the No 2 favourite character in Japan too.

One Piece sets a Guinness World Record for “The most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author”, previously held by the DragonBall series.

It has sold 320,866,000 copies.

Video of Yoshihisa Heishi being presented with the certificate on behalf of Oda (plus a very cool cosplay of the Straw Hats):

Very impressive and my favourite long-running anime.

Sidonia no Kishi: Daikyuu Wakusei Seneki came to an end with 12 episodes :( I really hope a season 3 will be announced some time, really want to see more! Will go locate the manga and start reading it for sure!

Season 1 was amazing, and season 2 was epic!! Really awesome seeing the Gauna get smarter and tougher. The same can be said about Sidonia, although they have gotten a bit dodgy behind closed doors :D

I really hope a season 3 comes our way :)

Yeah I saw the last episode last night. It was pretty awesome - really needs a third season.

I'm told that the monogatari series is pretty awesome. I watched bakemonogatari (which is the first bit of the series) and enjoyed it quite a bit, so I'm going to give monogatori a try.

Watched the first episode of GATE yesterday, looked promising, will be keeping a tab on it. Other anime I have added to my download queue are:

Ushio to Tora
Rokka no Yuusha
Ranpo Kitan - Game of Laplace
Code Geass Akito the Exiled
Senki Zesshou Symphogear GX
Charlotte

Been enjoying Gurren Laggan lately, will be resuming Steins Gate (currently on episode 2).

Has anyone seen Dragon Ball Super?

Steins Gate is pretty good. Tuturu. Neko girl is the best! I have it on Bluray.

And prepare to meet John Titor in this anime! :)

Charlotte and Symphogear are good. Symphogear is always good.
Gate is apparently JSDF propaganda.

Well after last season which was garbage.
