Why do you need a kit?
If I can find a phantom power alone then I can buy the mic on takealot. Its a gift for a friend that started streaming and he is doing good but bleh his mic is @#*!

If he is serious, rather get a proper interface like a Scarlett and use the mic with that ( they do have phantom power )

People who ask me this question, pending on the needs a kit which covers most use cases is the Scarlett kit. It ticks most boxes.

For streaming and podcasting, a Behringer UM2, UMC22 or UMC202HD amp are more than adequate. A mic... man, it is too hard to explain, but I usually recommend the Audio-Technica AT2020, but there are better priced starter mics.

USB mics are also still a option. The same reason which is too hard to explain applies here as well.

I discussed most in detail in the CSGO thread, yes, that is where I discuss my tools, and there was another thread here I also touched on it.

Just remember that the amp must be correctly specced. There are very demanding condenser mics out there.

Why not go USB?

Okay then I might need to change my gift idea if I am looking it the prices. I understand that good microphone is going to cost some $$$$

A 'good' mic in SA is priced ~R2000, you can go less, but going more you really need to know what you are planning on producing. I think the AT2020 (non-USB) is R2000-2500 at the moment.

I cannot comment on that USB mic, but most mics works without an issue should it be correctly set up in the sound settings. 1-channel, mono, and pick the right bitrate as shown in the manual and you shouldn't have an issue. Anything else usually comes down to equalising.

What I use... okay, at my PC I have an SSL2+ with both a Takstar K850 and TAK55, and I also use a Takstar GX6 as a USB mic. This is an overpriced and overkill solution, but the USB mic is nice.

I had a listen to this guy now,

not bad at all (believe me, I listen to many and various voice samples), and considering it is R999 at Wootware it is a very good option considering it comes in a kit with an arm.

There is nothing odd about using a USB mic. The Samson Meteor isn't bad, but I would take the C01U over it because it is more versatile, but then you still need to purchase a pop shield and arm, and you only need a shock mount pending on your arm or stand placement.

For game streaming you really don't need more than a USB mic, and you can achieve even better-quality using Equaliser APO,

which has VST plugin support. This also applies to condenser and dynamic mics. There are very good denoiser (or noise cancellation) plugins which doesn't cost you a cent to use.

As with all mics, technique is important. When you surprise the person with the mic, do say that you need to speak within the mic's proximity, and as I said, make sure that the mic is set to 1-channel and mono which will apply to the USB mic in question.

No mic is going to make you the next David Attenborough. Production quality is, however, a whole other topic.

Okay I will make sure to past this on to him as soon as I get the microphone. I almost waited a bit to long.

But this really helps me. Coming from person then really never uses a mic

Sorry, I can't recommend anything for R1000.

If you just want a Mic and nothing else.

The Samson USB (C01U or something) is not bad for the price. However you would also want something to mount the mic so it is not in your way or on a tripod on your desk.

Otherwise consider something like this if it is just for basic streaming:

I'm using a C01U. Its very nice, just sometimes a bit wide and long for a desk thats not big. I would have preferred it more streamlined. But it has very good sound quality (with a pop filter).

Do you use a boom arm?
