I am gonna take civil engineering next year. looking for a laptop under R15000, max R16000. I found Y50-70 for R15400. Is it a good laptop? or do you recommend any other laptop. also consider secondhand laptop with gtx970m.
Abandon this plan right now. Every fkin year we get this post on here. Go to actual classes & find out what is actually required then go buy the laptop to meet the requirements of the course.
Keep the gaming part separate in your mind. A good varsity laptop is going to make a sht gaming laptop and vice versa anyway. Its like asking for a ferrari that can do off-road well.
Varsity matters more in the long run - buy accordingly. If you do well @ varsity you'll have enough money to buy a wicked gaming rig soon enough.
I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 gaming laptop about 3 years ago. Still works great except for the battery which now last about 2 - 2.5 hours.
If you can get someone to buy the laptop through their company, you could get a better deal. What I did 3 years ago, I got a quote through my company but the Lenovo agent was not up to par (extremely slow service) so I phone one of the pc shops and told them what I could get it for which was 1k cheaper than their advertised price and asked them if they would sell it to me for the same price and they said yes (after doing some checks and stuff).
