So after spending hours on the internet I finally found this forum and I hope I can get the answers I need.
Quick summary: My mate and I have decided when this pandemic is over(or is manageable), we should go out the country and see the world and live a little. We're both in our early 20s and don't have the best jobs(we earn peanuts). We decided to start saving and a little gambling to help fund our little trip.

Now we're mostly concerned about the visa part:
Does the job you do or income you make affect the outcome of the application or is the funds in your account the most important thing?

We both have pretty close friends we meet online and have known for years and are also planning to visit, would it be advantageous to ask them to provide a letter of invitation?

Your help will be appreciated.

Different countries have different requirements. Where are you planning on going?

Most countries want to see a return ticket, booked accommodation with some sort of itinerary and enough funds to live of for the duration.

Yes to both - a person in a stable career with money in the bank is much more likely to be granted a tourist visa than a unemployed, broke person.

Get a letter from your employer stating you are returning to them after the trip as well.
Letter from friends in the country in question may be useful too.

We haven't decided yet as we are still in the planning phase, but definitely one of the European countries. We're aware that of the requirements and documentation needed.

I'd say we're two streets away from unemployed and broke(is that even a saying?). We just don't have fancy high paying jobs.

When the visiting tourist is broke the surety needed in general is higher.. I’d check the country/region rules on that this is as it’s usually a couple of thousand in their currency (which means in rand terms this could be prohibitively hard to do) in the bank for 30 days prior to departure or something.. this was back in the day.

Why the throwaway account for such a mundane topic?

So the first line was a lie?

Anyway, Mr OP, they like to see some link to the country as evidence that you’ll come back.

Go back packing in Asia, cheap, and most places you wont need a visa.
