Hello,

I am looking for some old stuff such as:

COMPAQ PROLIANT Server

preferably above with Pentium II processor and in working condition. I am not looking to spend heaps of cash on these old things but nonetheless will pay for it. Am looking for these things to use as simple servers with Linux for messing around/experimentations.

Any one that can help or is willing to sell an old server?

Regards,
JTech

a PC will also work. You don't need a Server class computer to test linux with. (except maybe for SCSI or raid :D)

Well that's kinda what I wanted to play with, the raid. A mate of mine has one of these old machines and he got it to work and uses it at home as a storage facility amongst other things. Was thinking of doing same kind of messing around.

So... Just buy yourself a raid controller? Adaptec's rather nice - though slowly loosing support in the *nix environments due to close ddriver development. 3Ware's also very good - esp on the SATA side...

Mate of mine has such a machine actually, it is the small one that looks like a very small bar fridge (apparently Pentium 1 processors). As for previous bad experiences with RAID controllers I'd rather give them a miss and try and get exactly the same hardware as what I saw, at least then I can get all the correct stuff from this chap.

Have seen some of these machines sold on bidorbuy but refuse to go via those dodgy channels. I know most of the folk here are pretty decent so would rather take my chances here.

I'll post the model number/type here later today

Unit I am looking for is model 3000. It's the box with wheels version. Haven't seen any of them in ages, last I saw of them being used at companies was back in 1999.

There we go, that's the details sorted out.
