Hi there

I was looking through the Hellkom page and in the Facts & Info section, it says this "They are the most expensive Telecoms provider in the world [Telecoms Report]"
I was wondering if anyone has a link to this report, and for that matter the rest of the statistics that seem to be mentioned on this page.

Thanks

Same here, I'm still busy.

Am I just suppose to belive stats given by Hellkom. I mean if a friend and I are having a discussion about Telkom. I can hardly say, "Well they do suck, cause Hellkom said so". Don't get me wrong, I have no love lost for Telkom, I would just like Hellkom to back up thier remarks with links to where they got thier info from.

Yeah, it could be Hellkom's opinion of course. And because all of us hate Telkom (I think[:D]) this reamrk will increase hatred. No-one will bother to look up if the facts are indeed correct

Hi guys,
Check out the 'Telecoms report slam Telkom' article on the Articles page:
http://www.itweb.co.za/sections/telecoms/2004/0404021159.asp

Most expensive for national and international calls, and second for national calls.

Nothing on the site is opinion except for the comments on the news items... all the facts that have been gathered are legit and have been added from press releases, news articles, annual reports, exchange filings and the like.. would definitely not add an opinion on the Facts & Info page, that would be unfair to Telkom and everyone who reads it as well!

[Johannesburg, 2 April 2004] - Telkom is trying to “screw the consumer” with its exorbitant call prices before the second national operator (SNO) is launched, says George Rahr, MD of global telecommunications consulting firm NUS Consulting.

Rahr says this is the conclusion that can be drawn from NUS's latest telecoms report and cost survey released last month.

The survey compared call costs between 14 countries, including Australia, the UK, the US, Germany and SA. The survey report states the price of calls for a three-minute call in US cents as of 2 February, excluding applicable taxes.

Rahr says SA faired worst in the local call stats, moving from fifth- to second-most expensive, with the cost rising by 2% to 14.2 US cents per three-minute call. Only Belgium's local calls are more expensive. SA was also the only country in the survey to have increased its call costs over the past year.

Nationally, SA moves up one spot to the country with the most expensive national calls over a three-minute period. Once again, SA went against the norm of dropping call costs by making no change to tariffs. Only the US, in fourth position, and the Netherlands increased international call costs by 3.9% and 3.4% respectively.

While SA was one of 10 countries to reduce its international call costs, it still has the most expensive call cost of 125.4 US cents, beating second placed Finland at 48.5 US cents.

Thanks for the link, I thought it was a ITWeb article that I had read before.

You should perhaps put links on the page to all your info, helps people see that you not just sucking these numbers and info out your thumb.

Thanks again :)
