I wonder if anyone so kind will be able to assist me looking at purchasing a printer that does auto scanning example 20 documents and saves it to PDF documents without me having the hassle to scan 1 document then scan and save.

Budget max R1800..

Scan stack of pages to PDF. Split PDF?

Most basic scan/printers with a feeder slot can scan the stack of papers you pile on... but cannot detect the difference between document1 with 3 pages and document2 with 9 pages in the same stack. I have no idea what new features might be available with more enterprise printers that can eg. (speculative) use orientation to differentiate between documents.

Edit: HP Deskjet 2645 might fit the bill.
Edit: 35 Page limit on the feeder though.

Just looking for something reliable that does it's job cos currently need to scan over 10 000 documents, don't want to purchase an entry officejet/deskjet and later be disappointed. 35 page limit on the feeder is acceptable as long as it doesn't skip documents.

Recommended monthly page volume
200 to 800 pages (print); 50 to 150 (scan)
(HP recommends that the number of pages per month of imaged output be within the stated range for optimum device performance, based on factors including supplies replacement intervals and device life over an extended warranty period.)

That HP would do the job but looking at the volumes you need to scan the desktop scanner speeds might frustrate you as they tend to be quite slower compared to enterprise machines

Will definitely then purchase one today as Incredible Connection & Makro have them on promotion.

How long would it take roughly to scan 35 documents - plz don't tell me 35minutes I will go insane.

*Just hope I am making the right decision buying this model*

I can not say exactly how long it takes but the little HPs are preety slow from my experience & meant for home use with few page scans, it might frustrate you at 35 pages per batch especially at higher resolutions. 10 000 pages would require an enterprise MFP machine which can suck like a page/second ,they are mean machines

I don't have that type of capital available to invest on any Enterpirse MFP but if you do know of any places willing to rent out any printer for a month without any terms/contract then will definitely take them up on their offer if the price is reasonable that way i can have it done in less than 3 days hopefully working non-stop!. My house is starting to look like a local stationary shop - decided enough is enough it is time to take action.

Bought this yesterday. Works out to about 1700 after using the discount on my discovery card. It is worth stretching your budget in my opinion. 3 year warranty on registration.

Edit: As I was installing it, it said that the software can scan to editable pdf as well.

Ask to test on the shop and look at specs online. Consider a standalone sheet fed scanner. Consider the mono laser equivallent printer (networked version) - they often have better scanner equipped. Also see if it scans directly to SD card - its nice not to have to rely on attached PC - especially if it will occasionally glitch software wise or during the transport to PC memory process.

Also going to use it for personal use. For scanning documents, signing on the dotted line and sending back to sender. To save on cost as well.

Imo go to your local copy shop, dump the paperwork and fetch it on flash later in the day.

At 20c - 50 c per copy, no thanx will pass! That will set me back roughly around R500 or more.

I would do this to deal with the once-off backlog of 10 000 docs, then purchase an economic unit that can handle the current day to day stuff.

Per scanned page or copy?
Yeh... that is pricy. I see some places charge R1 per page. Crazy.
Bear in mind that the consumer device you buy might only offer x pages a day or something like that in it's standard warranty agreement. If it packs up after 5000 pages....

NB: This type of hardware has a duty cycle - and 10,000 copies in a couple of days is way beyond that.

Push beyond - easily detected by wear on bands etc. - and you stand a chance of losing your warranty.

And if I'm not mistaken, it's recorded electronically in the unit as well. They do that for printing - there are ways to see what a printer has pushed out - we used to sometimes find that a 'brand new' printer had done some hundreds of sheets before we purchased it this way - through hidden commands using the power and FF keys.

Reasonable cost for a once-off monthly rental for a unit will be between R500 & R600. And in the case of printing 10c - 12c / page printed.

Scanning does not normally count as a billable "click" charge, but @ 10 000 pages you will be wearing down replaceable components used in the scanning process that needs to be accounted for.

Good point, though it should cope nicely with that number of clicks on the scanner if it's a decent unit. What you need to be up front about is the fact that you won't be printing much and that you only want it short term... that might affect the monthly cost and what is included in the deal.

Often these deals are based on annual contracts.
