Pretty sure there were plenty who were hungry and poor before 1994...
Didnt see much brazen looting back then...
Are you talking about South Africa ? What are you even trying to say here?
Did you live though the 80's ?

Perhaps watch the news a bit more.... perhaps google "crime rates in SA".
Also, this is not the first looting to happen since 94.
There was a specific reason why this looting happened now, it was planned and provoked but its very easy to provoke people into looting when they are struggling.

Are you aware that there are people living below the bread line in this country ?

People commit crimes for all sorts of reasons, greed, mental health issues, and also because they are just hungry.
Yup and they are there due to this issue, instead of coming together to help the community they are looking after themselves. A working community would be able to provide for the starving.

I`ll rather be a troll than trying to justify evil. SA has lost track of what is good and evil, so evil dominates.
I'm not justifying it at all. Just trying to explain why its happening.

Using logic like yours - the evil colonizers stole the land so you can fight evil with evil. Now you sound like Malema.

This is why we have such stupidity in this country.

Is theft and destruction of other people`s property evil or not? A simple yes or no will do, but you are unable to answer aren`t you? Must be Jan`s evilness that is causing this.

Its not a simple answer. Its bad for the people affected by it.

I'm a moral subjectivist. I don't even believe in evil, its imaginary.
There are things we like and things we don't like, I don't like when things are taken from me but I also don't like having nothing.

A man who took part in the looting of the farm, who asked not to be named, said the community had "sabotaged itself".

On wonders sometimes what motivates these looting, its not just random. The ring leaders obviously have to make these owners look like villain's before they pull of these acts.

I Hope you are wrong. I just find it unthinkable that an entire community can be so far gone that they condone this kind of behavior.

Similar situation with the rape in Krugerdorp this week. Imagine the level of depravity required to be sure enough of the lack of morals of the group of people around you so that you can walk up to a group of people and just rape them? Think about it? Sitting here I can't think of one person I know that I would "trust" to go shoplifting with.....
If you read the details of the case you're referring to, one of the victims said the older ones would beat the younger ones to rape them.

"You don't participate then we will see you as an mpimpi"

Exactly the same in this case

(I could swear I already posted in this thread, apparently not )

You cannot beat a decent human being hard enough to force him to rape someone....that is BS.
And the whole thing about being an mpimpi just proves my point - for that to matter to a person the opinion of the scum living around him/her has to matter.

Then you have never been really hungry.

Would you starve to death if you had nothing ? I wouldn't, as a last resort I would definitely take food to keep alive.

If you are saying that they are not in poverty or not starving then perhaps. There are people like that in this country though and that is the underlying problem that sparks this looting though.
and yes, once it starts then everyone gets involved - haves and have nots
Do you assume that EVERY looter AKA thief was or is piss poor which justified the looting? I grew up piss poor...thrown into a orphanage..."Izeli convent" just north of King Williams Town in the eastern Cape. Many a day did we go hungry. Eating turnips they used to feed the pigs with to get some food. Not once did we think of looting or robbing anyone because of our circumstances. Point been it's a culture....a mindset...a attitude believing that life owes you something.

Yes I have been hungry for many days and never did the thought of doing evil cross my mind. Trying to make sense of evil is fine as long as you still can see it for what it is. But I fear that any justification of evil is evil in itself. SA has this illness very badly, and its going to destroy SA completely.

I see that's also been looted to rubble....
Yes....They turned it into a army base for the ciskei government years back. Fond memories praying and listening to the Xhosa people sing in harmony. Was out of this world how they could harmonize. AWESOME PEOPLE who were just as poor if not more than us.

That's exactly what I didn't say, please read again.

I'm sorry for your hard life, must have been terrible. You obviously managed to to turn it around though ?
You didn't starve right ? and not currently starving ?

When you blame culture and mindset I lose all respect though, what culture is that ? You see theft and looting in every single culture in the world.
Mindset is based on your situation.

Seems pretty real to me.
Human evil is about the most real thing you can encounter. You cannot ignore it or wish it away, explain it away or any of that. You can only suffer it if you are unfortunate enough to encounter it.
