Lots of data disappearing from two SA mobile operators

Why on earth does this repsonsibility to not get fcked, get passed on to the user, this has to be the DEFAULT setting.

Only when DLL is opted into or if a bundle is purchased — DLL will be set by default when the bundle is depleted — will out-of-bundle charges be stopped.

“We encourage customers to change their Data Limit Lock (DLL) to R0 as soon as they purchase a new prepaid SIM,” Vodacom said.

Switched from Vodacom to MTN a few months ago, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I only have to recharge data bundles once a month now, not every two weeks.

Usage pattern is still exactly the same.

What a fantastic fraud! Skimming and siphoning minuscule amounts of value simultaneously from millions of customers. The executives of these companies should be arrested!

Is there a way for them to turn on bundles/subscriptions of any kind automatically?

I have an MTN Sim in my Gate motor. First day I brought it home - it went through R50 in a week with only 2 calls and 200MB of data. I took it out and put it in a phone and checked the subscriptions - i was subscribed to 3 things using over R6 a day. This on a brand new SIM.

So I unsubscribed from them all. This was 6 months ago and it was fine using around R50 a month, now its back again to using R50 a week. But it has only lived in the gate motor's intercom permanently, never in a phone.

New SIM sure, but new, clean, virgin, never been used before number?

It's a bit of a schlep, buy use ussd coses to turn off all subscriptions.

They should be forced to prepaid uncapped systems. Unlimited calls, sms, data with soft FUP. Then it doesn't matter anymore. They will never let it go. I have been preaching the Always In Bundle model forever I want my R45 millions for my idea and we want Always in Bundle NOW!

I wonder when icasa will take action? This amounts to theft. And yeah stop blaming the phones its your networks
This is actually the phones and happens everywhere in the world. It's only in SA though that data is so "scarce" that traditionally people check every kb. But why assume that it's out of bundle and not in bundle? The networks under bill so if you use data they aren't cheating you.

Wonder what Vodacom would say if you conducted the test with iOS?

Everywhere except MTN and Telkom?
