Lotto operator Ithuba’s televised donation of Covid-19 face masks to health officials and police officers in 2020 is at the heart of an alleged money laundering scheme involving Digital Vibes, former health minister Zweli Mkhize and his son, Dedani. Scorpio’s latest investigation unmasks the alleged plot.

Entities controlled by Mkhize’s associates pocketed millions of rands on the back of the DoH’s R150-million Digital Vibes contract and Ithuba’s donation.
Some of the funds were allegedly laundered to companies owned by Mkhize’s son, Dedani.

Scorpio’s latest investigation is supported by bank records, text messages and other documents.

Ithuba has strongly denied any wrongdoing. However, the company refused to answer several of our queries relating to the company’s role in the alleged scheme.

I am starting to doubt those Ithuba auditors. Lotto money is sensitive money, it is the poor man's tax. Sure, such discrepancies must be picked up?

Corruption doesn't happen because someone failed to pick something up, it happens because people deliberately ignore all the signs no matter how blatant.

This 'alleged' incident happened more than two years ago, and was picked up by an independent investigator, SCORPIO, digging into the SIU's records. It is more a question where the SIU is with their investigation? Ithuba being who they are appointed do undergo some tough auditing. The lottery has long been shrouded in controversy related to corruption, and I believe it is about time to turn the entire structure over.

The people reporting on this want to be careful. This lot have no qualms about having you whacked.

Look at Mdu. All that stolen dosh and still looks like someone shat in his cornflakes. Tahera is at least 1/4 Urukhai.
Is that a threat (against the members here)?

Then a honest question must be asked,... Why did the corrupt Ithuba move from analogue to digital? And why did Ithuba taking on a CSI responsibility when the NLC is there?

So it happens because someone fails to pick something up then? Need some logic lessons?

The entire continent is like this

This is part of an article published in a Swiss Bank circular after the bank was critised for "not giving enough"

Africa's enormous resource wealth has largely drained away, most visibly in the pockets of the political class, which has unabashedly siphoned off the proceeds from the sale of mineral resources for decades. The daughter of former Angolan President Dos Santos is considered a billionaire. Ugandan MPs recently approved $30 million in new cars. The Vice President of Equatorial Guinea bought a $120 million ocean-going yacht for his private pleasure. There are plenty of such villains. However, it would be a mistake to think that the misuse of public resources is only a matter for the upper echelons. Corruption runs through all social classes. The powerful derive the greatest benefit from it, the powerless the least. It is incomprehensible that the poor lethargically endure the excessive activities of their exploiters.

Maintenance is still largely unknown in Africa. This is particularly evident in the condition of the roads. The damage to the trucks alone, which thunder over the potholed roads, causes enormous costs. The money needed for this is not available elsewhere. Bad roads are a disaster for transporting perishable goods, domestically and internationally. Another example of massive waste of money: the regular and extremely annoying failures of the public power supply, especially in hot times. Mismanagement devours a large part of the national wealth. The state of Niger allowed itself a flyover in the capital Niamey for the equivalent of 64 million euros - in a country where many children cannot go to school due to the lack of teachers and school buildings. In July 2019, Niger spent more than EUR 100 million to host a two-day African Union summit conference.

If Africa stopped squandering its resources and instead used them wisely, there could be a perspective for hopeless young people who want to cross the Mediterranean to Europe. In order to achieve this, however, the sluggishness that prevails in all areas of society would have to come to an end. Better planning, consistent enforcement, more thorough work, reliability and consistency would be urgently needed. That is lacking everywhere.

@chrisc so whats the solution?
castrate every single man and woman after a certain age to prevent them from having 200 babies?
forced education, graphs and charts, name and shame?

or
is this the natural order of things in Africa, while extremely wealthy and rich in Resources,
people are stuck in a Medieval mentality of 500 years ago Europe,

if I'm the Lord and Chief/King/President for life,
nobody can challenge me, unless he knows how to dodge Bullets...

accountability, and public order are western concepts forced onto the natives, who dont understand or naturally develop these things themselves.
so they inevitably fail miserably.

Nobody ever wants to talk about the two elephants in the room.

One is the cause of most social ills and overuse of resources - Overpopulation.

I cannot say if it is intentional by our government, but it is easier to control an unintelligent nation than one that can see through their lies. I think that education in South Africa is a root cause of many of our woes.
