Hi all
I got a Huawei B618 with Rain LTE but I plan to keep my ADSL as a backup at least for the next few months.
I have a TP-Link Archer D9 which currently serves as ADSL modem and wifi router.

I would like to link the Huawei and Archer to utelise boths wifi since my house is quite big.
I know I can just put the Archer in Router mode and plug the Huawei in to its WAN port, but then the ADSL won't work.

So is there a way of doing this?
* Having to manually switch over to ADSL if something goes wrong with the LTE will be fine, so basically ADSL can be switched off.
* It won't be a train smash if the ADSL isn't available on the Huawei's wifi, as long as its available on the Archer should it be needed.
* Obviously the LTE should be a vailable on the Archer's wifi as well as the Huawei's, since this will be the main connection.

Please help, please go slow, I have 10 thums when it comes to network stuff.

Dunno if this helps but if you plug an ethernet cable into the WAN port while the Archer is in "DSL Router" mode it acts as a DHCP relay. Discovered this while setting up my D7 and RAIN

What exactly does acting as a DHCP relay mean?
So I leave DHCP enabled on both?
Ethernet cable from WAN port on the Archer to WAN port on the Huawei?

It means it'll relay the DHCP from the Huawei to the devices connected to the D9. Discovered it by accident, I actually wanted to do the opposite of you, take the Huawei out the equation completely except for sending internet through it.

You would turn off DHCP on the Archer, ethenet port on Huawei to WAN port on D9, dunno if it'll do what you want though.

Thanks, will give it a go and play around a bit tonight, there's always "restore to factory settings" if I mess something up bigtime.

Yes you can (use both at the same time) if you have a device that is capable of uplink balancing & multipath between the Archer and the Huawei. I did it whilst transitioning from DSL to Fiber, used both simultaneously with a Sophos UTM 9 firewall device.

Already got stuck at step 1, just getting the Rain modem to work on the Archer, let's forget about the ADSL for now.
Archer is in wifi router mode, DHCP switched off.
Ethernet cable on Huawei to WAN on Archer.
How do I then set it up on the Archer to get internet on its wifi?

In internet setup on the Archer, do I choose dynamic or static IP, do I enter the Huawei's IP which is 192.168.8.1 in this case?
I tried dynamic IP then it shows the IP as 192.168.8.105, the status then shows as internet connected, but the internet doesn't work if I'm connected on the Archer's wifi.

You can either set the Archer to a static IP in the range of tbe Huawei, 192.168.8.2-10 and turn DHCP on the Huawei off. Or just leave DHCP on the Huawei and it'll sort itself out.

You need to set the gateway on the Archer to the IP of the Huawei, 192.168.8.1, if you set up static IP.

Then turn the Archer DHCP on and voila.

For ADSL fallback just turn the Archer back to DSL mode and unplug the Huawei

Correct, but in such case you have to setup on the Archer manual DNS as well. Failing to do so means no Internet access for DHCP clients when using Huawei Internet.
