Naaah, they'll hold tons of meetings and workshops, block porn channels and the such. Then they'll give attention to that.

With our DOC anything is possible.

/OT What is with the huge photos? Can they not be scaled down a bit?

I doubt the current mobile data backhaul networks will be able to support LTE... current 3G services are already causing serious network congestion!

So the operators have a way to go before LTE will really be viable!

It is not just about backhaul I think..though that does play a major part. It is also about the amount of spectrum available to a tower. LTE is much more spectrum friendly...so can do more with less....so in that regard LTE will already be a step forward. Right now...the only option is really is to build more towers...and I think we have established what a drama and process that is.

Process is dragging but i doubt it will kill the roll out besides as said above, backhaul needs upgrading if they are going to offer the speeds for LTE considering 3.75G/HSPA sometimes struggle at some towers. I think a LLU or shared approach would be cool to reduce costs, towers, add competition and share air resource better but doubt providers would go for it.

On the bright side when it does launch there will be a plethora of small LTE devices available and network side the equipment would have gone thru 1st set of changes/improvements. I'm curious how many of our mobile operators run an IP backbone end-to-end with voip etc. Guess it depends on age of network.

Goldstuck conceded that there are mitigating circumstances, namely that the sequence of ministerial shuffles, and prior to the reshuffles, ineffective ministers that paralysed both policy and implementation.

That's not acceptable. Doesn't count as mitigating. They've dug their own grave through incompetence and politicking. Again, the people suffer.

ANC

I would not say that ICASA killed off WiMax. WiMax never really took off anywhere.

Was it given a fair fighting chance? I ask because gov.is/was always harping on about access to rural area and the like and in my opinion wimax would have been perfect to address those needs(nevermind lack of backhaul).Aaaaah... the Steve Song artice keeps on playing and playing on my mind.

Maybe it was...or maybe not...I cant answer that. All I am saying is that it never really took off anywhere in the world. In most cases it will happen that the one standard gets accepted and the other/s not. Look at VHS/BetaMax , BlueRay and DVD HD or whatever it was called. LTE in this fight came out the winner and that is what networks will be going for..majority wise anyways.

Hear, hear.Just that the worrying aspect about the article is the regulatory body's role in this, unlike the VHS/Betamax analogy, it was ultimately the technology and more importantly the consumer that decided and won the day.:whistling:
