LTE in South Africa: all we need is spectrum

How much latency reduction are we talking about here? Enough to get exited about?

Same old problems with the same old lot (government).....while LTE is already available in some countries, we're (i mean ICASA) are still contemplating on how to allocate spectrum. A useless parastatal wasting our tax.

Do we really need 100Mbps? isn't 42 enough?

How much is this costing? or is this just a way to line your pockets quicker?

Its not just about speed...its about capacity.

Actually it's mainly about efficiency. CDMA has been improved consistently for 10+ years now but there's only so far you can get if you start off with the wrong technology. OFDMA with a proper scheduling algorithm will allows for a much better sum(user*speed)/base_station ratio.

The question was what the latency on LTE is. Not what the latency across the international links are.

Generally when people ask about latency it's from a gamers perspective, so local tests outside outside the Vodacom network will give them something to compare their existing connectivity too.

Upgrade 3G to the equivalent 2G population coverage so long before we can talk the LTE language. You can also start slowly with what you have at your disposal instead of waiting for frequency that will be allocated 2 years down the line.

Why do i get the feeling that I've seen this photo before, and that its probably your peak speed ever achieved?
Because the photo was posted in April and has been viewed 837 times, and counting?
