Thanks for posting, we actually went over 300 shows of interest in Lynnwood today, so things are progressing very well!

Have any of the provider(s) you've spoken to yet mentioned any numbers about what they'd want before they are willing to start rolling out?

It really depends as there are 3 last mile options. Trenching, radio poles or wireless. In order of difficulty/price and reliability. Trenching will cost most as the company has to put the investment down and recoup with package prices where an estate can fibre the area with levies, own the fibre and get a provider to supply.

What I have heard to date is as follows:
1. 123 Net wants 300 shows of interest. (we are currently at 323 for Lynnwood - Area 1).
2. Fibrehoods wants 25% - 35%, but they are willing to come on board immediately (at approx 15%) and help us reach our goal by providing marketing for us.
3. Maboneng Broadband says they don't care about interest levels, since they know it is a suburb that can easily reach the required levels or more. They are more concerned about unity in the community (that we represent the people of the community). We have the support of most if not all community organizations and gated communities unofficially (they bought in and assisted in spreading the word, that to me is buy in on some level), however we need it officially. I'm currently working to resolve that risk.

Most other providers are awaiting our request for proposal. I'm in a final draft, just sending it out to a few people to check it for me.

If there are any other questions don't hesitate to ask ;)

I live in area 3! Been waiting for AGES for something like this. Then I got excited when they starting trenching around Glenfair shopping center only to find out they not coming into Lynnwood Manor estate :( I hope these companies can get into here! Have you tried posting this on localblock.co.za as well?

For what it is worth, I saw Telkom Initiative workers dig trenches in two locations in the Willows this past week.

One was at the Telkom box in Farm Road close to Full Throttle. They where installing cable underneath the road and the other was at the Telkom box on the corner of Swaardlelie and Prinia roads. They where running cable up and down Swaardlelie street.

Saw an article in the news today. That should be good.

The NEWS? All of it? ;)

Was this in the Rekord or another source?

Any update on how this is going?

An update: We have sent out the request for proposal documents yesterday. Thus far 5 fibre providers acknowledged that they received the RFP, and 3 indicated that they will submit a proposal. In a day or two I will chase the other fibre providers who have not yet responded how things are going from their side. In Lynnwood we have reached 340 shows of interest which is about 15%, other areas surrounding lynnwood are (the manors, glens and ridges) are at about 5% at the moment. Part of the requirements placed on the selected fibre provider will be for them to help us grow the interest in the areas they roll out as well as surrounding areas.

TBH, if you can go with trenching, go with that. The radio poles does not look very neat, and wireless will give you drops at times.

thank you

Ill have a talk around the complex tonight, I know one of the body/corporate guys in the complex went around asking everyone if they wanted fiber in the complex, they needed something like 15 people, haven't heard anything from that yet.

Ill point them to the survey tonight and tell everyone to go fill it in, hopefully that helps a bit. ADSL in The Willows/Wilgers is terrible at times so most of the people I know there want to get fiber

Any idea who is rolling out? Hope you guys are happy :)

I know telkom is active in the area, part of Die Wilgers have been on their planned roll-out area for months now.

How does this work. I tried registering using the phone verification option but it couldn't open. 10 minutes later I get a welcome email and can login and everything except the "Proof of address" is empty.

It keeps throwing me back to my own area and I can't check other areas. Looks like I'm the only one on it. Seems really flaky to me with even the "Change your address" field leading to a dead end.
