Don't worry - this is legit :D

I need someone to hack my MAC OSX.

What needs to be done is this:

Macbook has to recognice my external CD Rom drive
in order for me to install XP at boot up.

Currently Macbook is designed to not search for any external drives but it's own CD Drive.\

I URGENTLY need to install XP onto the windows partition as my internal CD drive has packed up.

I've exhasted all my other options and need a solution fast.

Thank you in advance :D

Please restoreth my faith in Mac again ;)

Don't you have the ability to change the boot-up sequence in the BIOS?

So that you can boot from USB devices before the HDD?

I don't know

I think if I did have that option then the Mac Technician would've told me so - other wise I don't know.

@tau1z. You can also boot from usb drives.

Along those lines ... Is there any reason that you can't copy the windows installation files to a usb hdd?

Macbooks and imacs can all boot from a usb drive / flash drive. My suggestion would be to download one of the hackintosh bootloaders ie. 'boot think' which is normally used to boot a pc from the retail osx dvd. It also has a feature that allows booting from all available discs.

In OSX, format the usb flash disk to Mac OS extended (journaled) using a GUID Partition Table (GPT). Install boot think to the usb flash drive, read through the pdf documentation to find shortcut keys and commands you need for when you boot. One of the commands enables the bootloader to boot from any available drive type. When you have done this - reboot , boot up from the usb flash disc again and you will have access to all drives connected to your mac. Select the external drive and install windows.(remove the usb flash disc) You then have to find a way to dual boot.

This worked on one of our i-macs at work ... we needed to re-install OSX from an external drive as the super-drive was not reading the installation disc. (or any disc) and the mac was not recognizing the usb DVD drive as a bootable drive... A bit different in your case but on the same lines.

EDIT: There is an alternative method: Use Google... there are instructions on how to make a bootable version of the XP installation disc on a USB flash drive. Its not just a matter of copying the disc to usb... the usb disc has to be made bootable. The instructions are too lengthy to post. Just not sure that a mac will boot from a NFTS / FAT flash drive though.
