MacBook physical security / Anti-theft - [No Kensington lock]

Just curious what everyone uses for security/anti-theft messures? sadly there is no Kensington lock slot on MBPr or MBA models

I generally buy AppleCare online using my credit card.

The actual product is only a "serial number", so you can also ask oversea's colleagues /family / friends etc to do it also if you don't have a card. If you know someone with a student card, its cheaper too.

Retina 15" Applecare is about R3150 though with currency conversion (RMB1650 at moment where I am in Shanghai, China this week), so its not a cheap purchase!

Peace of mind though is worth the extra money, especially when its a R28,000 laptop..

Yip the PNY one i'd buy but it doesnt look like TakeALot has them

I didn't even realise these were taken away.

I have never really considered them useful unless you were going to bolt the other end to a concrete floor or something.

Crime in offices or at client office are typically opportunistic rather than premeditated unless on a weekend. So this deters some would be thieves from just taking it as they pass by your desk and you in a meeting or getting coffee/lunch.

Ouch, but it's something I really have to look into getting soon.

Mine came two weeks ago.. works like a charm. Still amazed that no retailer like takealot ordered a few for local distribution as had to wait 4-5 weeks for mine to come, thankfully i scored a wantitall discount before i ordered.
