I still prefer buying from Amazon and having it brought over though :D

bwana, I'd really like to know how you've imported Macs online?
Amazon also states it does not ship Macs or iPods internationally. Upon trying:

*** We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order by changing its quantity to 0 and clicking the update button below. ( See geographical restrictions.) ***

Yeah - they're sticklers too. I have it shipped to my dad and he either couriers it the rest of the way or carries it over when he visits. Saves a fortune in tax.

So your dad's in the States? Can he forward a shipment to me?:p

I've sent a brown-nose request to BHphotovideo, on the off chance these guys have grace in their Jewish orthodox hearts.

But if that doesn't work I will take up Buddhism & meditation to learn how one need not have a attachment to material things. ommm ommm

UPDATE!

Speculation from a thread i started on Macrumors.com is that it's possible the Macbook range may be due for a next gen CPU upgrade (current CPUs are relatively old) . Giving reason that no more current models will be fitted with Anti Glare and that Apple's existing AG stock is reserved only for primary markets.

This seems to be the most logical assumption, so far.

If this is the case, it may be up to another few months until upgraded MBPs are announced. Then it would be the usual 6 to 52 week wait for Safrican customers.

Which brings me to another suggestion that was given on the thread -

It's possible to arrange with UPS, Mailboxes etc or other courier service in the US to have them take local delivery on your behalf and then have it simply forwarded to you.

This expels the supplier's responsibility with International Shipping regulations and also bypasses the suppliers shipping commission, ie - cheaper to ship.

Cheers

I've just been onto the B&H website and it appears that you can order Apple products and have them shipped to SA. Has anyone tried this?

What kind of duty can you expect to pay once it reaches SA.

That's funny, when did this change? last time I checked they don't ship Apple products to SA.

bwana - the warranty is with core - not apple - they have different terms and conditions to the actual apple warranty - i'm not saying they don't do service, just that the service they provide is NOT genuine applecare. If you purchased extended care i'm assuming you did that in another country, because that option is not available from core group. Try calling applecare usa or europe and ask theme where the nearest applecare center to south africa is :)

anyway i've sidetracked, sorry to go off-topic.

Core = Apple IMC, they HAVE to honour your apple warranty, similarly if you buy a laptop from core, and take it overseas, it will be honoured by apple. I agree you cannot purchase apple care/extended warranty from them though, but if you have applecare purchased from another country, core will honour it. As will any apple reseller.

Gives you that powerless feeling doesn't it

Duty to pay would be 14% VAT + potential clearance fees and/or random customs inspection (funny you sometimes have to pay for customs to molest your goods ).

So it's really a matter of just finding a US addressee.

Yeah its not great. There are some sellers on eBay that will ship to SA but dont know how reliable they are.

Think I need to think up an excuse to use some airmiles for a trip to the US!

where are you getting your infomation from? Cause it's very very wrong. Core certainly does not hold the warrenty in south africa, and applecare does exisit in SA, you just can't buy applecare in south africa .

just to pitch in - there is no "Apple SA" - just core - and they are two entirely separate and unrelated entities. I discovered the hard way - there is no apple warranty in za, because there is no applecare in za - because there is no apple in za

So the job I once did for Apple South Africa was a complete non-entity? I think you best investigate what you say because I know for a fact you are talking utter crap by saying there is no apple south africa.
