Q - is Macbook RAM upgrade self install a possibility and if so are there any pitfalls as apose to taking it in to be done by a pro - I'm trying to safe money by doing self install.

Thank you in advance:D

It's easy, the macbook has instructions on it under the battery, but you can also try ifixit

Normal ram works just as well as mac approved ram, I used ram from an HP laptop for a year then upgraded to 4GB corsair ram(mac certified) that was on special at the time. still running 100%.

Apple even have instructions on their site, well for my macbook anyway.

You can test you ram installation by using a memory test app or simply holding "D" at mac bootup, but you should only have power cable connected when doing so or it wont test.

I also running PC branded ram, absolutely no issues. Just make sure you install the correct speed as the macbook won't boot with faster ram than what's specified.

Upgraded unibody macbook my self (the one where you can change the battery). Took me 10 minutes to do it and i was being super careful not to strip the heads of the screws. I bought the ram from macsales.com (got fantastic service from them after post office decided to steal my parcel, they shipped me a new one via feddex at no charge)... Watch a vid online, but they ship it with a full instruction set. They sell mac tested ram. Sleep and all that stuff works no problem.
