Serial number, Model, CPU speed, Screen size, Factory, etc...

Guess you could also use this to check how old is a MAC, or where it came from before buying...

They could be gathering information to use to generate fake Mac's with valid serial numbers.

hmm point taken - too late in my case.

I google searched the link and found nothing sinister. Not to say it's merits are clear, but my impression is that its just a Database service.

the actual numbers in the serial also tell you some info... The week in the year that the machine was made etc... will find the details off this and post it.
