I stay in Plumstead, Southern Suburbs in Cape Town

Every day from about 10 am to midnight , my latency is at least 200 but usually over 800. I have reported this about 4 times. I spent over 2 hours on the phone yesterday afternoon, where i kept getting transferred to the 'right department'. Today I spent 1 hour on the phone where no one answered. And I am now feed up, I sent in everything that was requested by Telkom a few days ago and still no feedback.

It does however look like really bad congestion. Following cable theft I was stuck with similar pings for a month or two.

I have tested with the free axxes account, and there was no improvement

Congestion is caused by an overloaded exchange, using a different adsl account won't fix it. You'll just have to wait for Telkom to fix it.... one day (usually 3-12 months).

I had a similar problem at my old house, took telkom 6 months to finally come and check it out. Was fixed in half a hour...

Mmmm... you can take Telkom out of the government, but you cannot take the government out of Telkom...

BTW, I am in Goodwood and I have exactly the same issues. Did trace routes like mad and bought access via three different ISP's (Afrihost, Axxess, OpenWeb). No difference. The best I get at the moment is 1.5Mb/s on a 2Mb/s line... Needless to say it is much better than last weeks 0.2Mb/s on a 2Mb/s line!

Now you know why Telkom state UP TO in front of all their line speeds. The speed CAN go up to, but there is no guarantees!

Telkom are just a useless company, with no motivation to better themselves because they have no competition regarding ADSL lines...
