Soon Censored? Korean Scientists Successfully Kill Cancer with Magnets

In South Korea, scientists used a magnetic field to get cancer cells to actually self-destruct. The body removes old, defective, and infected cells through the process of programmed cell death (PCD), or apoptosis. In apoptosis, the rejected cell responds to certain signals sent by the body by fragmenting. Immune cells then consume these fragments. The magnets help trigger apoptosis. When apoptosis fails, however, rejected cells divide uncontrollably, developing tumors.

Magnets Induce Apoptosis
Professor Jinwoo Cheon of Yonsei University in Seoul and a team of scientists conducted experiments on bowel cancer cells using magnetic fields to induce apoptosis. They attached iron nanoparticles to antibodies, which bind to “receptor” molecules on tumor cells. These molecules cluster when the magnetic field is applied, triggering the “self-destruct” signal and thereby apoptosis. In the experiment, over half of the bowel cancer cells were destroyed when the signal for apoptopic clustering came into effect. Untreated cells remained unaffected and unharmed.

Big Pharma’s Response?
In a related experiment, the scientists performed the same therapy on zebra fish, which caused them to grow unusual tails. More trials are in the works.

“We have demonstrated that apoptosis signaling can be turned on in-vitro (in the laboratory) and in a zebra fish in-vivo (living) model by using a magnetic switch,” say the scientists. “Our magnetic switch may be broadly applicable to any type of surface membrane receptors that exhibit cellular functions on clustering.”

The study is to be published in the journal Nature Materials. One must wonder how this form of therapy—one that does not, as of yet, line the pockets of Big Pharma—will develop in the world of traditional medicine. Drug manufacturers (literally) bank on perpetual sickness, and cancer drugs have shown time and again to worsen tumors.

But regardless of any potential alternative treatments, big pharma will continue to push these dangerous ‘solutions’ on the public. Even while numerous cancer-fighting foods like turmeric, ginger, garlic, papaya leaf extract, berries, and many more exist, the pharmaceutical industry and mainstream medicine won’t recognize these as solutions.

Apparently they didn't actually destroy all the cancer but they did manage to induce apoptosis in a little over half the cells in in vitro samples.

Still interesting as it didn't induce apoptosis in normal cells.

All of that aside: Christ man couldn't you have found a better article, one that wasn't covered head to toe in conspiracy theorist accusations and obvious bias? How does someone read something this crazy and think "man this is such an inspired piece of journalism. I must share this with the world!"

That is why people who work in loudspeaker factories don't get sick

A magnetic method of killing cancer cells has been developed by scientists in South Korea.

The technique uses a magnetic field to flip a "self-destruct" switch in tumours.

Researchers have demonstrated that the process works in bowel cancer cells and living laboratory fish. Programmed cell death, or apoptosis, is one of the body's ways of getting rid of old, faulty or infected cells.

In response to certain signals, the doomed cell shrinks and breaks into fragments. These are then engulfed and consumed by amoeba-like immune cells.

Often in cancer, apoptosis fails and cells are allowed to keep dividing uncontrollably.

The magnetic therapy involves creating tiny iron nanoparticles attached to antibodies which bind to "receptor" molecules on tumour cells. When the magnetic field is applied, the molecules cluster together, automatically triggering the "death signal" that sets off apoptosis.

In laboratory experiments, bowel cancer cells were exposed to the nanoparticles and placed between two magnets. The cells were designed to light up green to signal that apoptopic clustering was taking place.

More than half the exposed cells were destroyed by magnetic activation, whereas no untreated cells were affected. In another experiment, magnetically-induced apoptosis in zebra fish caused the creatures to grow abnormal tails.

Details of the research, led by Professor Jinwoo Cheon, from Yonsei University in Seoul, appear in the journal Nature Materials.

The scientists wrote: "We have demonstrated that apoptosis signalling can be turned on in-vitro (in the laboratory) and in a zebra fish in-vivo (living) model by using a magnetic switch. Our magnetic switch may be broadly applicable to any type of surface membrane receptors that exhibit cellular functions on clustering."

PS, these aren't those dodgy 'magnetic healing' bracelets they sell at the fleamarket.

Yes, I have one on each wrist, one on my willy and have never had any problems. The willy one is tied on with pyjama-cord. Want a photo?

Luckily I read the non-crazy version first. Pretty cool stuff...

Schit I just realised that they didn't actually do this with cancer cells sitting around with living cells. They just treated a bunch of cells with the antibody solution, gave them the magnetic field magnets and they pegged. Then they did it to some other untreated cells and they didn't peg.

So... this is a mechanism for inducing apoptosis in cells using magnetic fields but not necessarily a treatment for cancer. Still cool but not as cool as I initially thought. One would still need to create an anitbody solution to work on each and every situation.

In order for this to be some sort of silver bullet for cancer (or half of cancer in in vitro situations anyway) all cancerous cells would need to display some sort of unique cellular marker... which I doubt.

Read again. The other half of the cells were untreated. Meaning they did not receive the iron particale nano infusion on a steeeck

Yeah, sure. For science!

You're sounding like Big-Pharma now with your big words and excuses! Markers, pfft! :(

Anywhoo, I'm sure they'll optimize the hell out of this and make something useful out of it eventually. Go team.

No only more than half of the cells exposed to the antibodies underwent apoptosis upon exposure to the magnetic field. That doesn't include the unexposed.

I don't get it, what is the conspiracy?

That less effective treatments are far more profitable than a cure. This is somewhat true with regard to products like Ibogaine but in terms of cancer, they have no control of this as the field is studied very disparately...

If they can really study this further and it has real world implications that have similar results to what radiation therapy produces, then I'm all for it, but only if the side affects are considerably less than that of what I term "being cooked by a microwave". Speaking from experience, radiation therapy is the worst thing I have ever experienced.
