Like many forum members I do not use a MyWireless mailbox for incoming mail, but I do use the sentechsa.com smtp server for outgoing mail. Because of this my reply address is a non sentechsa.com address.

Since last week I have had mail to a major customer start bouncing because a am trying to mail relay, and now a reply from the OB&C in the UK with a reply header RE: spam:******.

Is anyone else experiencing this and could any sendmail/antivirus/antispam gurus comment on whether this is MyWireless mail server changes related, or bright new ideas from antivirus/antispam scumsuckers.

They probably had the mail servers open for relying aswell as the proxies.....

If that is the case ........well i actually give up their incompetence right now!!!!

Or the mail servers sit on the same ip range as our DHCP ip's that we get when we connect....

I know the ip range that we use is already listed on mailservers as being a dynamic address range and used for possible spam....... so we are buggered either way....

Their incompetence is getting pathetic!!!!

Mail servers usually look at which network you're actually coming from to determine whether you're relaying or not, not your reply address so your reply address shouldn't normally make a difference.

Based on feedback from the UK, seems like a rather over vigorous 'update/improvement' has been released by one or more of the antivirus/antispam companies, as the annoyance is fairly prevalent. Good solution, stop all traffic, frees up the bandwidth.

I sent about 20 emails out this morning,
not 1 has arrived at its destination yet (nnn@icon.co.za)

Changing from smtp.sentechsa.com
to smtp.vstar.co.za (as suggested in another thread on myadsl)
has solved the problem for now....

Can anyone recommend a (free) SMTP server to use
on windows XP in case smtp.vstar.co.za also bites the dust ??

TIA [8)]

There are many of those around, but I wouldn't recommend using them, any SMTP server on the sentech IP BLOCK, are considered dynamic IP servers which are blacklisted on many spamCop type engines.
I'm implementing a workaround this week, setup a SMTP server on an ADSL account, configure it to accept my connections, and forward them through the ADSL smtp servers.
I know it sounds excessive, but its the most reliable alternative I got right now

Help save the bandwidth. Decent download speeds for TheRodent! Stop downloading now!!!

that should be interesting, name@noone.com LOL
yeah, going the Domain route is an option, but y stop at mail only, hetzner offers 10MB DiskSpace + 10 Addresses at R39pm.

Domain account is only good if you only want to use yourdomain addresses, I also have 2 addresses with ICL, but those are used on a separate computer to the Domain address, and that requires pop authentication before sending, so in order to send off the domain smtp, I need to first download my mail on that computer.

Why do I make my life so complicated, should just throw out the other 2 addresses, oh well.

A bird in the wind whistled to use 196.38.110.4 which resolves to mail02.infosat.net. So far this is hearsay- is at least worth a test, I say!

noone- cozahost make you give up yr ID to get a "free" (truly -free- is like being able to read in a magazine) online quote where monkey-ball sucking *g* hetzner and webonline.biz at least show you up front what you're in for. Could you give some idea of what hosting/domain reg. costs? As in more complete info than your 20:19 posting?

Thanks for the response guys,
b0sssh0ss - 196.38.110.4 seems to work OK as a "public" SMTP server

The emails i sent at 12:17 via sentechsa.com finally arrived at @icon.co.za at 18:32 - i thought they were lost forever so now i wasted time sending them twice...

What i meant to ask was:
can i run an SMTP server on Windows XP, connected via sentech ?
would this mean i dont need to use sentechs's SMTP servers ?
and what software would one need to do this ?

TIA again...

CBL google for windows smtp software. I use QK SMTP Server (www.qksoft.com) which allows for adding backup smtp servers - like the laughable smtp.sentechsa.com. Works for me, YMMV.

Like I said in my post at 18:57:08 running your own mail server off your sentech account will cause many of your mails to bounce back, many popservers using spam detection, will not allow a connection from a registered dynamic IP space. (MyWireless features in a few of these dynamic lists)

Just watched a 12KB/s down and 4KB/s up stream...... dynamically die a foul death......

This is just "F!CKED UP" as a telkom technician once told me when my land line wwent down!!!

Sentech is just nailing more nails into their own coffin....... at a rapid rate of knots too
