Major ADSL shutdown in South Africa - These areas will be cut off

Openserve has warned that it will shut down its ADSL offering in areas where fibre connectivity is available from 1 September.

In a letter sent to ISPs which was subsequently forwarded to affected customers, Openserve said that in areas where Openserve Fibre Connect (OFC) was already available, all DSL and copper services would be disconnected.

What about areas where OFC is not available, but other FNO infrastructure is available. What's the point of leaving the copper in those areas>

Old folks who are set in their ways, don't know better.. customers tied into 24 month contracts..

No fibre in Beacon Bay. But I don't really care if they switch off their pathetic ADSL.

Oh wait !!! ADSL is coming soon

Not only dsl but also copper lines. Parents were informed and given a new phone running of fiber I suspect..

So all this area's will get FTTH within 12 months period? It seems like you 50% of SA will get FTTH

Haha. Jokes on me. They shut down ADSL in my parents area without a suitable replacement. They are useless

Can't believe all those areas in PE have fibre and we don't :crying:

I see I'm in area on that list, there is fibre in the street outside but everywhere I search tells me no fibre.

Have they set-up fibre everywhere and migrated people to it? No.

I literally have an example of a colleague who had their copper lines stolen, and not repaired / replaced because of this, lose functionality of their alarm system as the alarm used the phone lines to communicate to the securities.

If you don't have back up infrastructure in place (I have been sent texts telling me they'll be around to replace my phone with their new wireless one - not a single soul has shown thus far) then don't cut people off until you do.

Time to cancel that landline.

I would welcome ending my unholy marriage to Telkom spanning more than 40 years but as Openserve has no fibre presence in Beacon Bay where I live, Frogfoot needs to get their act together and fill the void in the trunking which has been in our street since before lockdown. MDU date has moved from end June to end August now and down the street, coils of trunking are still present on the sidewalk so who knows when I go live.

OpenServe getting the persons money instead of the competitor?
You're not making much sense.

The person has Vuma fibre
There's copper running to their house
My question: if they're not using the analog line, what's the point of leaving it in the ground

OK, I'll admit I was lazy to do this change from ADSL to the Fibre thing even though the newly installed Fibre cable's connecting box is right outside the front door, better get my ass in gear now as Sept 1st is around the corner...
