Please Call Me man hopeful for R9.4 billion in battle's final round

Please Call Me idea-man Nkosana Makate will return to court on Thursday, 21 November 2024, for what he hopes will be the final round of his fight to get Vodacom to pay him R9.4 billion for the idea.

The Sunday Times reported that Makate said he was "upbeat" and looking forward to beginning a new chapter in his life.

So am I correct in reading into this: Vodacom stole MTNs idea and used Makate’s as an excuse to suggest their employee came up with the idea, not them? Now that MTN let it slide he’s jumped on the money bandwagon and used it against them?

Thats my guess. Only problem is they agreed on a contract with him, which clearly wasnt the wisest decision.

Also he may not be aware that the idea Vodacom launched, wasnt entirely his idea, but stolen from MTN either. Still had a contract.

And then rather than Vodacom dealing with it way back then, they kept sweeping it under the rug, hoping they would push him into bankruptcy so he dropped the case.

Didn't all this start when Vodacom turned red? They used to be blue.
Cell C used to be red then turned black.
Telkom was black then turned blue.
Only one to have stayed the colour of a gifappeltjie is MTN.

I don't think Vodacom would have been allowed to sign a formal contract given that MTN had the patent for this concept so any formal agreement would have been null and void (or illegal).

Not sure if this is right but my logic tells me you can't compensate someone for something that another company owns. Therefore you wouldn't have been able to set up a formal contract for this?

Maybe there's some loophole I don't know about. Not a legal expert.

If this guy gets anything more than a "Commission" then it's a huge injustice

The fact that he is demanding revenue share is beyond comprehensible.. And that this case has dragged on for so long is just ridiculous
