Make this phone FORGET about Youtube!!!!!!

I recently got an Innjoo Fire from Takealot.com
It runs Android Kit Kat 4.4.2
In terms of price/performance, it's the best buy I've made in a long time. Cost me about R1400, and performance is the same as most R3000+ phones.

The only gripe I have with it, is the Youtube app, which can't update. This is reportedly an Innjoo problem.
MY BIG MISTAKE: I uninstalled youtube app from apps, and now can't reinstall it. Play store gives me an error 25 - Can't install app.

I tried downloading youtube apk's from the internet, but those give me the error - "App not installed. An existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed."
I'm guessing that is what the Play Store should've been telling me instead of a useless error code.

I checked the "all apps" section on the phone, and there is no "not installed" option so I can remove any old youtube installation. That is what is usually necessary when this problem occurs on other phones.

I rooted the phone, and deleted com.google.android.youtube from the root\data\data folder, but the message STILL comes up when trying to install.

Where is the remnants of this hybrid manufacturer's youtube still hiding?

How do I make this phone forget about it??

Is that a safe option? Seems like a hell of a process...

See if you can find a youtube apk somewhere in /system/app and delete it.

I got in there, and it shows me basically the same list as I get if I go into settings, apps, all. youtube isn't in there.

Found Youtube.apk in Root/system/appbackup
Deleting that still wouldnt get the phone to allow me to install from playstore or downloaded apk.

Luckily, I backed it up before deleting, and I installed that apk, which is the exact one I was trying to get rid of...... :(
[ youtube 5.7.41 (1599000099) ]

I'll give up the fight for now, and stay with this modified, unstable cr*p that the manufacturer put on it.

Why don't you use another Youtube app?
Like Snaptube etc

Allows you to browse and download videos.

Is it possible to format a phone's onboard storage and reinstall Android on it?

You mean like a factory reset? Better to do a factory reset if you need that done. If the phone won't start up, then you can boot into that, usually by holding one of the volume buttons while turning it on, but it often differs slightly from phone to phone.

Have you tried to activate "Unknown Sources" under your settings?

Go to Settings, More, Security, And under Phone Administration tick "Unknown Sources".

I hope it works.

Perhaps search for it using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en. Used that file manager from the good 'ol Symbian days.

Your BEST and fastest bet will prolly be to install titanium backup and then delete the app from there. Just use caution because selecting DELETE will highlight all apps. De select all and just delete youtube. Then install from - http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=youtube&post_type=apps_post

Installed Titanium backup..... It's interface sure does look like a Christmas tree..... I went to Backup/Restore, then I backed up that Youtube first(the unable-to-update-one that I want to get rid of), then cleared youtube's data, then deleted it with Titanium, then tried a manual apk install, and I get the same problem. Go to play store, same problem. Install that version that I found from the backup, mentioned earlier (it says: version: 5.7.41 (1599000099); installed: 5.7.41 (1599000099), it installs the old version that can't update that came with the phone. Then I can use that unstable piece of garbage again...

This is because of something that the manufacturer did for some reason, but I can't figure out HOW they did it.

Hi. Thanks for reply.
Yes, that's always on for me. This problem is because of something the manufacturer of the phone did, and is a "known problem" according to a few users, but their support is pretty much non-existant. I'm hell-bent on trying to find a solution, though. If I can get a workaround to this, though, it sure will make a lot of people very happy, and I'll be sure to give all the glory to the one who can find out how to get it working.

I seem to remember uninstalling an reinstalling Play store fixes this problem. You'd have to find a Play store apk first of course.

and I'd better make sure it's one that works too. Seems a bit risky to me.
Also, why then would a downloaded youtube apk also not work? It tries to install via app installer, and bypasses play store totally, doesn't it?
