How do make sure that I’m sending the best signal to my HiFi?

What are you using as your source and how are you sending to your HiFi?

That's the question .

What would be the best way or method to do this ?
What would I need buy ?

I’m using a Wiim mini + AirPlay. Seems to be ok.
AirPlay or even AirPlay 2 doesn't seem to stream lossless - so surely there must be another way to get the music 'off' the service without it being resampled etc ?

As with AirPlay, AirPlay 2 supports lossless, 16-bit/44.1kHz CD-quality audio streams — one of several levels of lossless audio now offered by Apple Music.

How do you get this ?

In addition to AAC, the entire Apple Music catalogue has now also been encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD Quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz

AppleTV with the correct settings for the Music app would be the most straight forward way to achieve lossless playback.
Apple TV als odoesn't support

How to turn lossless audio on or off

  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Select Music.
  3. Select Audio Quality.
  4. Select or deselect Lossless. Apple TV 4K currently doesn’t support Hi-Res Lossless (sample rates greater than 48 kHz).

Start here, but it is now a bit older and there's been a lot of updates since.

Apple TV didn't support the full bore Hi-Res Lossless last time I checked but that may have changed with the most recent hardware or updates.

****

Here you go where it is and isn't supported.

Seems Apple TV still doesn't do Hi-Res, but does do Lossless.

That’s not Hi-Res though, just Lossless.

If I get myseld a set of these little Kef (stereo) and I want top get the most out, it just doesn't seem possible. The same seems true for the Sonos ERA300

Ooh lovely I’ve wanted a pair of those for a while as well.

You’ll get Lossless but not Hi-Res.

Think you’ll need a dedicated HiRes DAC like the FiiO R7 if you wanted to go HiRes, or get the relevant cables to use with iPad/Android/iPhone.

Would highly recommend checking out Darko Audio on YouTube if you wanted to get this serious.

Shouldn’t be any issue if you wire things up directly, it’s when it wireless that the protocols don’t play along.

Hi-res music is a scam…just like Apples prices :p :whistling:

Then you need a DAC with usb input. There is a review version of the Apple Music app you can use with a pc/laptop. Mobile devices you’ll need a lightning to USB dongle thing.

I’m using a Topping DX3 pro with headphones which works ok. But Wiim wins for convenience, for me.

I had the standard Kef LS50 that I really loved and regret selling .

I've seen a used set of these and thinking of them, as they sounds fantastic. But I cn't work out how to get it playing the best available.

I checked the Sonos Era300 which I'd probably prefer - but again, I can't see how to extract the best from it . Also, those are so new that they have to be bought new and therefore expensive

If you wire it up there shouldn’t be any problem getting the best out of it.

Doing it wirelessly is the problem.
