PlayStation and Xbox showdown in South Africa

Makro and Game customers prefer PlayStation over Xbox, according to the retailers' parent company, Massmart.

Following the announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro's pricing in South Africa and the news that Microsoft has no plans to launch a competitor, MyBroadband asked several retailers about the popularity of the gaming platforms.

If Microsoft did some advertising they'd probably get more Series S to overtake the PS5 but those customers are definitely not going to buy games at full price and most likely won't even subscribe to game pass more than 6 months a year. So not worth the effort.

An OG Nintendo Switch drifted from the left field, ready and willing for the "Showdown". Left dissapointed. "Does not want to bully the swiet littil childs" was its parting words.

Microsoft just need to replace their whole marketing team. The whole Series S, Series X, XBox One etc I'm sure contributes massively to their lack of sales. It is far too confusing for the average person who doesn't actively follow console developments.

I bought an XBox Series X, but I almost didn't because as an outsider I had to invest time into trying to figure out which was the latest generation, and of that, what was the difference I could expect between models of the latest gen.

With PS5, it was an option of with or without a disc drive. That was it. It was clear the PS5 was newer than the PS4.

The only reason I bought an XBox in the end was because it was on a very good special. Had that special not come along, I would have gone with a PS5.

Heck, even now that I have an XBox, I find the XBox Store confusing when trying to buy games, because if I search for a game, it shows the XBox Series X/S version and the XBox One version, or sometimes only one of them, and I don't know if it is the right version or if there is a version which is specifically for the X or S, or if the version for One is the only one available.

LOL most of those Xbox series X/S sales are series S anyway.

Gamepass is koning.

Let's re-check the stats after Christmas with Black Ops 6 launching on Gamepass, think that game alone will shift the needle not just in SA, but then again Xbox is platform agnostic so the PC community also kind of falls within it, modern platforms are weird.

You will hear of console wars and rumors of console wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Fanboy will rise against fanboy, and company against company. There will be game droughts and layoffs and company closures and remakes on various platforms. All these are the beginning of the looming console crash.

The recent rumours of XBox pulling out of Saudi Arabia should be worrying for our region (are we still Middle-East/Africa?) More concerning was the typical nothing-burger response from MS
“Xbox devices are available in all current Xbox hardware supported countries, including Saudi Arabia,” Silverman’s said. “Console availability may vary by country but Xbox games can be played on consoles, PCs, and on phones, tablets or TVs where Xbox Cloud Gaming is available.

If true, hopefully will not affect ZA. Pity we don't have concrete sales info, but ZA has been PS based for years...
