Malatsi proposes axing 10111, 10177, and 107 emergency numbers in favour of 112

Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi has proposed to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) that the country phase out three public emergency numbers, including 10111.

Malatsi is proposing the axing of 10111, the police hotline; 10177, the ambulance hotline; and 107, an emergency number for Tshwane and Cape Town residents.

And this is in spite of a brand-new, state-of-the-art, multi-million Rand Central Control Centre built a few years ago ...

Same story for all the other new centres - all a waste of taxpayers money.
We need many more centralized control centers, they cost billions though.

Yeah. Have used 10111 a couple of times but has never worked, and then they just ransfer you to the local police station and that we know most definitely doesn't work.

Best is just to contact CPF.

Obviously we know whatever they plan has to do with tenders and wasting money and making someone rich.

or we could go 911 which is almost globally known to be used for emergencies... I bet you half the kids today will say 911 before 112 if you ask them what to dial if there's a problem.
Isn't that Netcare though. Although will need the 082 911. So can get confusing if you expect private ambulance and here arrives one of these:

Meh

Irrelevant anyway, everyone knows you have no reasonable chance of the emergency services even answering the call, nevermind dispatch help of any sort.

Private security and private medical aid services is all your only option, luckily they provide a sterling service day in day out.

Don't think I've ever seen a .Gov. BroughttoyoubyANC ambulance or Medivac Chopper at an accident scene.

This. I say we first get the phones working at local level. I can't even call the local hospital or police station. How the fck can we expect a national call centre to miraculously function??

I wouldn't consider only the area under the North American Numbering Plan to be "global" in this context.

Though, if South Africa wants to change its emergency number, may as well go the distance and change it to 0118 999 881 99 9119 725... 3.

112 is the emergency number in most of Europe
