First time I saw it was in a small, farming town. Bunch of jolly lads (I thought) in tutus and make-up running around an intersection.

One doesn't need a ceremony for lobola but people waste money on them. "White" wedding isn't necessary for non-christians but people insist on them. This leaves us with one inexpensive ceremony but people would rather throw over R300k on frivolous celebrations.
