Some lives are clearly worth more than others.Agree. A paltry 2.6 to shut him up
State can provide them with a loan. While paying it off for the rest of their career, they will think twice about whether they can afford another loan...the police officers probably don't have 2.6m in their personal capacity...

So how many of these cases are in SA? This case + all the others (Wrongful arrest etc) that does not make the headlines? How much does the SAP pay per year? Just asking.

it is very relevant, because the applicant would be interested in actually getting the cash to compensate for damages done
suing them in their personal capacity will do very little to change behavior if they have very little assets to lose, infact it may increase reckless behaviour
your argument is on shaky grounds
We'll have to agree to disagree, I never said that the police shouldn't be sued for damages, I merely said the officers involved should be sued in their personal capacity. I still maintain that suing the police alone will not change the officers behaviour in the future, suing the officers in their personal capcity might though, although I don't know how the process would work rr if it is even possible.
you are completely ignoring the plight of the person who spent two years in jail
whether they are compensated in full or not is irrelevant to you and your pitch that policeman might change their behaviour is on weak ground
