Man vind glo lintwurm in Spur-gereg
Stellenbosch.

extra proteins anyone ?

If I don't see it Im not bothered.

Do you have any idea what other things you eat/drink when you buy any food /drinks at a bar/restaurant?

If I did find something like that in my food I would however sue the living hell out of them :D

Don't they only enter the multi-segmented stage when living inside the human host?

I'm always a little uneasy when someone wants us to eat at Spur. That place is SO dodgy.

I agree, if I don't know about it, I can't be bothered. But I don't see how you can sue them for more than a free meal. :p

That's what I was thinking. How did he know for sure it was a tapeworm? And BTW, I love Spur, nothing wrong with their food.

Emotional distress. I am sure I can think of one or two more things :)

Also you can blackmail them because they will be closed by health and safty (even just for a while) if you report it.

You will have trouble fighting a corporation like Spur over a plate of food with something undesirable in it. H&S will do a check on the kitchens and the preparation of the food, and clear it. Just another unhappy customer who got a free meal.

Look I am betting you will get them to settle, think very bad press and all that.

Not for millions but maybe for around 20k or so.

Maybe we should ask the leagal eagles on the forum if you will have any case here in SA.

In the USA im sure you could sue for millions :p:D

I would like to see someone try that! I mean, did the poor guy who found the alleged tapeworm get anything?

A barf bag? :p

Lol, one of my mates found a worm in their KFC burger, one of those nice big plump "salad worms". He took photos and luckly did not take a munch out of it :)

This story sounds like BS to me. Tape worms only live in the digestive tracts of live animals and humans. It must have been some other type of worm, or maybe even a vein or sinew. Tape worms can't live in the flesh of a pigs leg. I'm just too suspicious of stories like this - there are too many scammers and idiots around these days.

I agree that you should never order something esoteric like eisbein at a restaurant that doesn't specialise in it - turnover is too low and it probably sat in the freezer for months.

Pretty sure that they only live in muscle while they're in the larval stage, and need to be ingested in order to develop to the adult stage. If i remember my biology correctly, it actually needs the digestive enzymes in the hosts stomach to dissolve the cyst walls that the larva lives in.

Either this is a rare case or it wasn't a tape worm, wouldn't be surprised if the media spun it to make it sound more sensationalist.
