Uncle Gweezy is weighing in on things that are way above his half a neuron to contemplate it seems... also trying to push the "move Eskom to DMRE" narrative as well if you ask me which would be disastrous for this country.

How many engineering degrees does the minister of public works have? Or for that matter, how many degrees in engineering does Mantashe have? Oh right, nothing. Why don't they start at the top and require that the minister in charge of Eskom must have a PhD in Electrical engineering.

But that is beside the point, they could appoint the most qualified person in the world as CEO, if they are still bound by dumb political constraints like the ones that Mantashe and his ilk impose, it doesn't matter.

Why should we have a minister that is in charge of Eskom in the 1st bloody place? I agree 100% with you that our p*sspoor ministers in SA cabinet are worthless in pretty much all of their portfolios but are deemed adequate given that a PHD in Struggle Credentials carries more weight than having a relevant qualification and experience within their portfolio.

Gweezy just further toeing the socialist policy that the state MUST run power generation to ensure the poor don't get cut out...what that MORON doesn't realise is that you can decrease the cost of electricity over the long run given the correct amount of competition for energy generation!

I thought this wasn't his portfolio?
He wants to make it his to make his coal transport businesses strive more. That's also why he has the bright idea of a second state-owned Eskom.
This all comes from the same man that defended Zuma knowing of the Gupta's and corruption they have brought.

Well, they have had more than a decade to get one these fabled walk-on-water fixers to fix Eskom and have failed to do so.

Spot on! Ministers should he dealing with government and its affairs, SOEs should be treated like any other Enterprise with a Executive and a Board, problem is ANC wants all the tenders so they keep interfering in the SOEs... As done with SAA, 51% of the stake of all SOEs should be taken private to remove ANC interference

De Ruyter was always going to be blamed by some sections within government. There are elements which aren't fixable within a SOE without the state's part to offer remedy, but the 'value-chain' is simply too lucrative to optimise.

Regardless, to remind Mantashe,

27 top black execs did not want Eskom CEO job

Board asked business leaders to apply for job. They all said no

how many other cadidates also refused?
