A few days ago I tried browsing the net, only to be given "the page cannot be displayed" at first i thought the server might be down, but after a few other websites gave the same error, i decided to check the router, and to my horror only the power light was illuminated, no dsl link, no lan link.. And after numerous resets and unplugging it for 5 minute periods I had to come to face the fact that the router had died. This was odd because there was no power surges / lightning strikes although it was connected to a telkom adsl protector (which has fallen under suspect).

Ok no problem i thought, it should still be under warrantee. So begun the saga of trying to find a telkom outlet that 1) knew how to speak english, 2) knew what an adsl router was and lastly had one in stock... Hours later after driving around most of Johannesburg I arrived at the telkon offices Rosebank, to be informed that the warrantee had expired 5 days earlier, and there was absolutely no compromise but for me to fork out a further R2100 odd rands for a new one!

At that point i wished i had a can of petrol and some matches to create Molotov’s-Marconi-router-cocktail and launch it into their head office. Now I realise what all that bullet-proofed glass, time lock doors and other security is for.

So screw them, I went to my supplier and picked up a new 4 port router for R999, complete with 2 year guarantee!

Beware those, whose warrantees have expired, the tr<font color="maroon">Y2</font id="maroon">mel<font color="maroon">k</font id="maroon">hom virus may strike your equipment.
