The billionaire Facebook co-founder recently shared a metaverse selfie – and it’s making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Mark Zuckerberg has posted a selfie from Paris in the metaverse and it’s received a lot of backlash online.
People have taken to Twitter to complain about the visual quality of the virtual world that Zuckerberg has already spent billions developing, The Sun reports.

The Meta CEO recently posted a metaverse selfie to his Facebook page.

He captioned it: “We’re launching Horizon Worlds in France and Spain today!

“Looking forward to seeing people explore and build immersive worlds, and to bringing this to more countries soon.”

The image shows his metaverse avatar with his arm outstretched seemingly taking a selfie with the Eiffel Tower.

Although the post has 105,000 likes on Facebook, it received some criticism on Twitter.

One person tweeted: “Mark Zuckerberg launches Horizon Worlds in France and Spain with an eye-gougingly ugly VR selfie.

“Meta’s metaverse ploy is surely dying in the dark.”

Another person joked: “So as far as I can tell, the Metaverse is just Animal Crossing but you’re being hunted by Mark Zuckerberg.”

While one person added: “Why does Zuckerberg’s metaverse have worse animation than wii in 2006”.

Some people have criticised Zuckerberg’s legless avatar for looking dead-eyed and scary.

Meta has already spent billions investing in the metaverse and plans to spend more.

Zuckerberg has previously admitted that his metaverse project will lose a “significant” amount of money for the next three to five years.

Dafuq. Give me a couple of billion dollars and I'm pretty sure I could actually add some value to this world.

I mean according to the UN it will only take $6.6 billion to end world hunger

Give me a couple of billion dollars and I'd pay a couple of guys a couple of million dollars to fake my death while I disappear.

Just buy a few islands and setup a deadly perimeter... Then everyone will leave you the fsck alone.

Is this like the opening scene in Team America - also Paris, where the schitty puppet show trolls the viewer into feeling buyer's remorse before panning away to reveal the actual movie universe?

As someone who does not even have a Fakebook account, I laugh at all this meta bullsh|t.

Has anyone watched a really stupid move called Idiocracy? Seems it is a foreshadowing of the future.

One had to wonder why they're pushing the metaverse so hard?

Its the new arena for companies to own...where the most profit is going to come from.
Like whoever dominated Virtual Meetings in 2020 can pull the most people to their suite, so Google, Microsoft, Zoom are all trying.

With the metaverse most US companies believe its the next frontier if you own the next gen meeting rooms.
You can work, play, etc all through VR.

The companies see it as - we will dominate all
- virtual transactions within the world (nextgen Google playstore),
- you can buy & sell virtual land and zones to businesses,
- we even take profits from banks as we own the currencies and do the transactions (Facebook virtual crypto)
- we can mine more of your preferences/habits in the virtual world, as we see more of your movements (sell to advertising)

These are some examples of how they will make money.

It does mean that they are betting on people spending all day every day on VR worlds....for work, for play, for travel. etc
There are a few companies betting on this, Facebook wants to be the first so they can set the rules.

I must admit, I see this type of VR push the same as trying to take notes on a computer VS just writing them down in a notebook.
Trying to solve a problem that does not exist or forcing in an overly complicated solution.

Metaverse...honestly I don't get this. Walk outside and meet people. Or see your friends and family and work colleagues. Hope this tanks.

And it looks like that game/whatever/app was coded on an Intel i740 graphics card!
